Dump Term 2, 1.01: Sleep Now in the Fire

The party of fiscal conservatism is a joke. Trump 1.0 added $7 trillion to the deficit, which with where the deficit is today, is about 20% of it. Now, Trump 2.0 is looking to add another $4 triliion to it, running his total to $11 trillion of the $40 trillion, or approximately 25% of it.

And over night, the DOGE Wall of Receipts pulled some of their top "savings", realizing that there were errors in their calculations.... This is all a f'ing joke and a big grift for Musk and the rich.

I’m seeing the “sell national parks” popping up more now.

I’ve always assumed that’s the plan
It sure has.

Its one of the big things that irk me about Conservatives, is they aren't in the least bit concerned with conserving nature.

Christ, even Doug Burgum twisted Teddy Roosevelts words by saying that using the national park lands for farming, ranching, mining, and other land use is what Teddy would have wanted.

If there was a God, he'd have zombie Teddy Roosevelt beat every "conservatives" ass with a stick.

We all have that one hill we would absolutely die upon, and mine is protecting (and growing) the national park land.

I’m planning on going to some of the newer Smithsonian’s I’ve never been to and some national parks I want to see in the next sis months or so. If there are things like that people want to do they should do them soon.

There has been a ton of hyperbole in politics during my life but I don’t think you can overstate right now how well and truly f’ed we are.

Also to add to the vanity of our President, legislature will be introduced to put Trump's face on a new 250 dollar bill.

All because microdicked white Republicans were mad that someone suggested that an uppity black woman should be on the 20.

Yeah I remember him saying that...that dude is a chode.

The only things "Conservatives" care about conserving is White Male Power...and rich people staying rich.

When they sell Isle Royale, I want the State of Michigan to buy it and retain it as a state park.

Social Security is formulating plans to fire HALF its staff, probably by the end of the week. From Reddit:February 25, 2025On a 3pm EST call this afternoon the ACOSS told the DCs/execs that he wanted a plan to cut 50% of ALL staff, including frontline staff, to him by tomorrow afternoon.

This is what has always confused me recently. Hunters used to go hand in hand with protecting the wilderness, for obvious reasons. Teddy Roosevelt being the prime example. But now they are so bent out of false shape over the second amendment, they have totally lost the plot. (And refusing to accept climate change which will also destroy their hunting grounds.)

This crosses over with many outdoors people being a combo of extremely "Anti-government" and "Anti-science/knowlege".

They all think that every DNR is run by idiots and that a single law/regulation/management strategy in their lifetime has been a success. They all know exactly how to fix it and exactly what is wrong with the status quo.

I can give 100s of examples on how the rank and file don't have the slightest grip on reality with this stuff.

If you want a laugh, go read the comments on TV6's Facebook post about DOGE cutting 13 USFW jobs in the U.P. mainly centered around Lake Trout management.

If they're axing USFW (and there's no reason to think Musk won't), there goes my SIL's job. She has a PhD in genetics and could've made more in the private sector for the last 10+ years, but chose public service. And for what now?

I'm in private sector fisheries and we do a TON of partnership work with state and federal folks. Lots of research to benefit all fisheries as a whole. Some of the projects we were planning, or even in the middle of have been terminated due to funding being suddenly cut. Others, thankfully, haven't been given the axe yet but we are keeping a close eye on them. One that I am working on with NOAA could be an absolute game changer for the aquaculture industry for the better (both from a science standpoint and an economic one).

The amount of misinformation and just complete misunderstanding of anything science among the fishermen (and many non-fishermen) is mind boggling at times. I frequent various fishing related forums and these guys are all experts because they do a little fishing on the weekends and maybe used to read In-Fishermen in the waiting room at the oil change place. At almost every conference I have attended, there is almost always a symposium or round-table on how to combat this but anymore these days, I am not sure you can. So many people will just choose to believe what they want to believe and that is that.

It has not been uncommon out here to see fishermen demand that Fish and Game do X about problem Y. Fish and Game will say "listen, X will NOT work, please believe us". But fishermen will continue to demand X. So F&G does X and of course it makes things worse. Then fishermen start screaming "why did you do X and ruin everything?!?!?" Or similar F&G will say, "we need to do X to stop bad thing Y from happening" and fisherman will scream "NO DONT DO X THAT WILL RUIN IT!" So F&G doesn't do X to keep them happy. Then bad thing Y happens and the fishermen will scream "WHY DIDN'T YOU DO X TO STOP THIS!!!" I really admire the patience that some of the folks working in that public sector have. Similar story on the wildlife management side as well.

I did and I was hurt by the complete ineptitude by some of the commenter's. "Good, they were new and didn't know anything." Despite being tenured staff recently promoted hence the probationary status. The sheer ignorance is so frustrating.

And then BLM and other public land. I have a coworker who claims to be middle of the road (despite the fact that he voted from the orange sack of crap multiple times and can only point to 1 vote for democrat in the 10 years I've know him). He is a big time hunter and dirt bike trail rider. I told him if he wanted to keep doing that, a vote for the orange guy was not a good idea and that he needed to look up project 2025. Told him what it was and that public land would not be safe. He gave me a "well I don't know, I haven't heard of that". And I am pretty sure he bought the lie that the orange turd didn't know anything about it either. I know for sure he never actually researched it.
