Minnesota Gophers 2024-25

the Poison Nuts came to play dirty today. They'd miss a blatant trip away from the puck then call one of our players for retaliating. Did we play our best game today? hell no. We were doing a bad job of driving the puck to the net. an osu also (and this was more evident on Friday) love strategically dropping their sticks or ripping them out of the hands of our players.

The refs seemed to be calling this game completely different from yesterday. Given how much Muzzerall loves to scream at the refs, it seems to work. Maybe Frost could raise his voice once in a while...

At least the men swept the BADgers next door...

In the moral victory department, as that is all that is left for the tunnelers, they were able to hold the sinners under double digits in goals this afternoon. They have given up 15 goals in the last two games. How about them apples?

Well, that was something. We all know tomorrow will be tight game.

It's time for Frost to consider his position. 5-15-4 vs. wisconsin the past few years is utterly unacceptable. It's widely known in Dinkytown that he had a serious discussion last season with Mark Coyle about our post-season performance and that Frost got some NIL money to bring Mlýnková and Parkkonen to campus. We have tons of talent on this team. There's no reason we should be collapsing like this.

Otherwise, I look forward to another semifinal loss vs. wisconsin/osu and probably a 4th vs. 5th game again so we can lose in the semifinals on home ice. yippee.

I've been thinking for a while that Frost should consider rotating in Johnson to give Clark a rest, especially since Skyler is out for the year.

In the second period, at a time out right after UW scored she skated to the bench and all she was standing there she looked completely defeated. She put her head down on the boards. Her teammates after that point we're trying to encourage her at every timeout the rest of the period.

This is also the attitude of a true Viking fan. Known as post-first round playoff loss syndrome or PFRPLS.

I don't blame Hannah one bit. She's a freshman. give her a break, Brad.

I can literally see US Bank Stadium from my living room, over across the river.

I wasn't trying to rip on her, I was just reporting to her fanbase what I saw. I did have a twing of sympathy, she obviously was not option 1 going into the season.

oh, no worries, I didn't think you were. more that Frost needs to let Johnson/King get some reps.

In the ever expanding world of moral victories for the tunnelers, they only gave up 6 goals today to the sinners. Two less than yesterday so I guess that is improvement. Although that might have been due to the sinners wanting to get on to more important things like watching the Super Bowl

And of note, have the tunneler women ever given up 21 goals in 3 consecutive games? Sheesh...This is getting bc like in an underperforming program.

I expect that neither reggie nor tony would agree with you re: BC, haha.... Also, Wisconsin is so strong this year. I watched Sunday's game and thought that if not for the wild penalty-filled second period Minnesota may have stayed in it. (I liked the Gophers' jerseys yesterday, too, though I doubt that is consolation. The refs were inconsistent, as well, with an odd call on Morrow and the various stuff related to Abbey Murphy.) Overall, I'm just thinking about how much separation there is both in the pairwise and in scores between #1 and #2-3.

Watch the film from game 1. Masterclass effort.

So I'm usually not on the "seriously, what's the deal with this team and is it the coach" train... but that was a startling appearance by the Gophers.

I get that they were missing Bouveng and Kreisz were in Europe all weekend and Mlynkova was out Sunday, but the players they did have looked listless all weekend. Murphy's body language is always bad, but the rest of the players were just going through the motions. Primerano looks average. They left Clark out to dry all weekend. Heck, when Murphy poked the bear one too many times and Edwards decided she'd had enough, it was the Badgers that came out firing immediately afterward and the Gophers did not respond in any way, shape, or form.

This is the first time I can remember seeing a Badger/Gopher game where the Gophers looked completely checked out.

We were fully staffed vs. OSU the weekend prior and still lost 3-7 in the second game.

We'll get the Woofers (St. Cloud edition) this weekend, Duluth, then probably Mankato for the quarterfinals. I look forward to losing in the semifinals against OSU (WCHA Tournament), then watching Wisconsin win the NCAA on our home ice.

I'm damn near the point where I want this season over with.

Win the NCAA or move on, Brad. Don't make this awkward.

MJ went through a rough period 2012 - 2018 in the ncaa's with just a couple runners up for their efforts including not even making the tourney in 2013. They did manage 3 conference titles there but the ncaa's were not kind. I believe he had the same staff from then until now. I can't point to a shift that made then successful, it just came back together. Of course Frosty has had coaching changes which is the big difference.

Those two periods aren't even remotely comparable.

From 2014-2018, Wisconsin won three WCHA championships, three WCHA playoff championships and made the Frozen Four every single year. And when you look at the Frozen Four exits, three of them are because those insane mid-2010s Minnesota teams knocked us out.

From COVID to Present, Minnesota has one WCHA championship, one WCHA playoff championship, and one Frozen Four. They've lost in quarters twice to UMD and Clarkson and missed the tournament entirely in 2021.

I'm trying to make them feel better!! Haha. I will say this, for all league and tourney titles UW had in that stretch, they all feel very hollow without the ncaa title. All I can recall from that period is them losing the last game they played and all the paint thinner I went through. I had to get a commercial waste disposal license for my house so I could get rid of all the thinner cans legally.

Well it certainly is nice that rival posters are keeping the tunneler thread going. Thanks for doing that. I frankly don't see much reason to go on here other than to make sarcastic remarks about the state of the program. And to StPaulSam's point...it just might be time for a regime change if you can't be competitive with the top of the WCHA.

ironically enough, I just interviewed for a job at a university out east (with only field hockey). I may still outlast Frost.

In 2023 my former roommate kept trying to convince me that a WCHA tournament win was basically just as good as the NCAA championship. LOL.
