I learned today Dickey's Barbeque Pit, a BBQ chain, is paying their Pit Masters $10.50/hour.

That will be the worst BBQ you have ever tasted.

The worst BBQ is Famous Dave's. Sh-t on a shingle.

The best of the chains is Red, Hot & Blue, which sucks because Atwater started it but more please.

This is a way to bring all wages up. A centralized source comparing the wages every business pays.

Even the playing field. Give workers information. End the taboo against discussing salary. It is one of the weapons ownership and management uses against workers.

Shit, I wanted to work at Torrid as a second PT job. Gave up a morning for an interview, only to learn it was $10/hour and it would only be 4 hours a week. So glad I never got called for a second interview.

FD's isn't bad. I actually prefer their ribs over the ones I got at Salt Lick.

The ribs I make are better than both. I'd put them up against anything short of like franklin's.

Famous Dave's is ok when it's a catered work lunch or something... But there are local places that blow them out of the water, for sure.

As far as exploiting who makes what wage, it's a very tough predicament to be a worker currently. You have to jump through so many hoops to land a job. And the better paying it is, the more scruitiny one comes under. Look at how one's social media channels are examined and how you posting pics from a kegger at a friend's apartment while you were in college in 2004 can bite someone who's 42 now...

FD's is fine for what it is. I didn't mind going to a local on a nice summer day, sitting on the patio and eating a plate with lemonade. You wouldn't try to steal their recipe but they had some legit sauces more than anything else. It's McD's with ribs instead of cheesburgers.

Kentucky towns near the TN border are supposedly seeing TN residents inundating their gas stations, according to the few stories from people I know who live down there. Kentucky (at least, where I live) apparently doesn’t use this pipeline, but Tennesseans obviously do.
As for BBQ, I’m definitely not a connoisseur, being from east Jesus nowheresville Minnesota, but I’ll take Kentucky BBQ over any MN BBQ I ever tasted. Different counties (no one is from a town here unless it’s Louisville/Lexington/Bowling Green/Owensboro) make entirely different BBQ, and it’s all equally fucking delicious.

Best BBQ I have ever had in my life is in Davis Square in fucking Somerville MA (Redbones). Two guys from Mississippi who, well, got the fuck out of Mississippi.

Best region for BBQ is North Carolina. There are thirty BBQ places within 30 miles of Chapel Hill that are all out of this world.

It's one of the few things the South can do that isn't directly tied to hate and stupidity.

Hmmmm. I grew up with NC-style BBQ (in East Tennessee - Home (ridgewoodbbq.com) was the best), and I'd still take Texas over NC. Guessing you've spent little time in TX?

SyFy had a Twilight Zone marathon last night and I forgot Kepler’s dream is a plot point in one of the episodes.

Man gets four rushes from a genesis. One is a wish for $1 million. Guy from the IRS comes to give him his tax bill. After federal and whatever state tax they used, only 60k was left.

In today’s dollars that would be someone making roughly 9 million taking home a half million.

BBQ is almost always about personal preferences (I personally prefer it all). Also, usually what people are talking about is the sauce, rather than the actual BBQ'd meat itself when talking about differences.

Carolina BBQ (sauce) has got a little more of that vinegar tang to it, compared with the sweetness of KC or Memphis sauces. Personally I sort of like the spice of some Texas sauces more than the sweetness or tang, but I've never turned down any of it.

Yes, it’s generally the sauce, although there are variations in how the meat is cooked too. One of my best friends loves BBQ that isn’t smoked- her county is famous for it. My wife, on the other hand, loves her hometown’s smoked BBQ better. They agree the other’s BBQ is trash. I, on the other hand, love them both.
