RPI 2020 Off-season: Off-season Cancelled

Hearing rumblings the off campus hockey players will not be allowed access to any facilities until after the first semester ends. This due to their housing not having the ridiculous 2 students: 1 bathroom rule.....thus not compliant and not having access to RPI facilities and coaching staff. Off campus players on their own to find ice and training facilities or return home, take online classes and train at home. Anyone else hearing this?

With sophomores already being told to stay off campus 1st semester, this means no full team functions until end of November after semester ends??

Assuming RPI has any intention of playing ANY games this academic year and not just wish to be among the very first to cancel everything, first practice in late November with a first game in early January is a fairly normal training camp. That should not prove to be an insurmountable issue.

Of more concern is to not get roped in to dealing with a place that give the impression they are obsessed with controlling everybody, everything, every single time. Before sending them any money for tickets or anything else, make sure the terms for attending any events there are clearly stated. Then you can make an informed decision about whether you have any desire to live with those terms before sending money.

Examples of thanks, but, no thanks would be requiring bespectacled people to still be wearing masks more than four months from now in a damp hockey rink. Trust me, does not work even in a supermarket. Also have not being able to sit with significant others you are not wed to or just plain non related friends and acquaintances you have sat with for years or even decades. Probably in a different seat than the one you have always been in too.

You have to go to the supermarket. You don't not have to deal with terms that are too cumbersome. Buyer beware.

Hence the problem for anyone trying to identify a strategy for bringing back spectator sports. Some of the requirements that Tony sees as too cumbersome are the same ones that I would have as a pre-requisite for attending pre-widespread immunity. There are no easy answers.

Is it just me, or does Uscho Fan Forum take forever to load comments now? My Smilies don't work either. I wish they would go back to the old version.

At this point nothing would shock me. Of course if true, this policy would not only effect hockey players, but any RPI athlete living off campus. The last time I checked there was no ice down yet at HFH...though that could change any time now, IF they intend to lay ice this fall.

They are putting down the ice labor day weekend

I agree that anything is possible in COVID-times, but the housing situation seems like something that could certainly be addressed and resolved prior to the start of whatever season is allowed.
