Dead Thread - 2020

Although not famous for hitting the longest of home runs (but obviously for hitting more than anyone), saw him hit one in the center field bleachers in the old Polo Grounds in NY. I was fortunate to have parents who took me there often as they were huge NY Giants fans so I got to see some pretty famous and rare events at that oddly shaped venue. Saw Lou Brock do the same thing and although i do not remember it well, saw Joe Adcock do it also and was there when Stan Musial hit 5 home runs in a double header (which has been done a couple times since but perhaps never again now that double headers are so rare).

Are we at the point where we could fill an entire lineup out of HOFers in the past year?

Not quite, but I would take my chances with an outfeld of Lou Brock, Al Kaline and Henry Aaron, Joe Morgan at 2nd base and any one of Whitey Ford, Tom Seaver, Bob Gibson or Don Sutton pitching. Put anyone you want at 1st, short, 3rd and behind the plate and that's still a playoff team at worst.

He got to 87 in spite of all sorts of medical issues in his life and having been married 7 times!

I thought he was like 95.

Also, 8 times. One of them was a double dip.

He had a type: they are all blonde boobs on a stick. I guess he kept trading in for next year's model:

52-53
61-61
61-63
63-67
67-72
76-83
89-92
97-19

You are correct of course. i was not sure if we counted the double dips in # of wives. I should have listed the marriage number at 8.

Former Maple Leaf captain George Armstrong.

Not sure how many here are as old as you and I are and remember him. As a youngster, and an avid NY Ranger fan back then, I hated Toronto and Montreal. But only because they used to come into NY at MSG and beat us so often and so badly.

I missed him by a few years. The concept of a Maple Leafs dynasty, like the one in the 60s, is so bizarre.

In the 36 seasons from 1944 - 1979, the Leafs (9) or the Canadians (18) won the Cup 27 times.
