... so I see the "woke mob" has arrived with the PC police in tow. Boy oh boy, another sign of the times.
As an aside in closing ... it's pretty ironic to see some tut-tutting about reasons why some old posters have left, as we seem to pursue a goal of making the atmosphere on this thread (to say nothing of the overall forum) as antiseptic as UNH admins have turned The Whitt Experience into over the last decade-plus. "You suck" ... "bloody stumps" ... "Black Betty" ... all gone, but we're to believe the reason folks leave is because we haven't made things even more sterile, antiseptic ... and boring. As was put by Neil Peart over 40 years ago ...
First and foremost, I am offended that you didn't post a trigger warning alerting my delicate sensibilities about the antics once experienced at Snively and the early years of the Whitt.
How dare you make me relive the horrible memories of my dad saying to me in the mid to late 70s when I was a young boy, "Listen, what you hear and say here is perfectly acceptable at a hockey game, just not in front of your mom. Get it?" How could hockey fans in the year of lord, 2024, possibly handle hearing such missives as "you suck" or a 300 year old spiritual song Black Betty while eating Dippin' Dots and shuffling around the arena in slippers and sweatpants with "JUICY" silkscreened on the ass?
Of course when Zeta Chi was relieved on the fish and cowbell, Waste Management came out in HazMat suits and the lame, manufactured "I Believe in UNH" chant was forced into existence, we all knew that it was the beginning of the end.
Monikers aside, AD Rich is one of the highest paid in employees in the state. As a public employee and someone drawing such a robust salary for a state servant (such words can be said about MS7 and Santos as well), she needs to be held accountable for her decisions and, ultimately, the athletic programs over which she presides. She doesn't have the cover of working for a private institution any longer, nor can she hide in the shadows as a 2nd Associate Athletic Director for Legal Affairs (or whatever it was) with a level of protection from the big boss. The buck stops with her. In such a visible role, she needs to be accessible and be able to justify her decisions to the state, university system, the taxpayers, the donors and the fans. Does she have a three, five, seven year plan? If so, will it be publicly released? Has she been educated on the historical traditions of UNH Hockey, good and bad? Does she understand that UNH was once "the place" to be seen and that there was a years long waiting list for season tickets? Doubtful.
Despite the (limited) lip service she has provided to fans of the hockey program publicly, my sense is that she just doesn't get it or, frankly, she doesn't care. With the new initiative to build a lacrosse/soccer stadium, my guess is that she is stretched thin in a shaky economy. Like many first timers who hold a top spot for the first time, she runs the risk of overpromising and under delivering.
