Definitely an error if Commesso wasn’t well. Pandolfo mentioned that he was thinking of making a change earlier in the second, but decided no. I think he was fooled a bit into thinking it was just that kind of score fest and who was in net didn’t make a difference at that point. It just may have made a difference since we grabbed a lead twice in the 2nd. I know athletes don’t like to admit they don’t have it, but Drew probably should have said he didn’t have it or wasn’t ready. Don’t think Jay will hesitate next time. A learning experience for him.

A learning experience for sure - it's not the athlete's ultimate responsibility to tell the coach they can't play. That's a coach's job to know when their player is not in playing condition and make a move. It's why boxers don't throw in the towel on themselves and managers take pitchers out of a game.

This was painful to watch. And if Drew was actually hospitalized, didn't practice all week and was only recently cleared to play, then he shouldn't have played. I agree - a learning experience for Jay. That said, there were a ridiculous number of free BC shots from the slot, and BC has some great shooters. And shoot - and score - they did. With the exception of a few bursts, we didn't play with speed, didn't stay hard on the puck, didn't back-check as we have been doing for most of the fall, and let BC take the game to us. That's a recipe for a loss. Matt Brown was really the only real standout.

Hopefully today is a more "normal" game. Commesso was off for sure, but the d obviously wasn't dialed in. I also think the second BC goal may have been slightly deflected. You could see the BU player that might have tipped it frustrated with himself and Commesso look exasperated. Anyway it doesn't matter - they had their worst game since the first Michigan game. We've seen them rebound from losses all year, let's hope they look much better today. Even if thy don't get a W (UConn is obviously a very good team).

Quick thoughts before the 2pm tilt with the best Huskies team in HE. : )

- It was a joy to be in a full hockey rink with a lively college atmosphere. The BU student section traveled well and the chants back and forth were lively and fun. (Lot's of 4-letter words from the nice Catholic boys and girls.), but ... stay to the end of the game, Dog Pound. Leaving early is soft.
- Conte really is a drab uncomfortable place to watch a game. Right down to the lighting. Basketball practice gym? They should be building a new arena.
- Pyrotechnics during intros? Really? Is this minor league hockey?
- A hockey rink without a center scoreboard is an unforgivable sin.
- How come no criticism for Jay for his constant line juggling? I mean, they're coming off a sweep. Why all the tinkering? (Yes, I know Ryan Greene was out, but did that mean all the lines needed to change?)
- Drew wasn't healthy, that was obvious. But as mentioned above/below, the BU skaters weren't prepared for or didn't execute properly to handle BC's speed.

And finally, how was the TV broadcast. I heard rumblings that Bucci sounded like a BC homer. Was Colby on color or between the glass?

BU Hockey: Teaching Opportunity

Colby was on color and did his usual good job. Bucci was...Bucci. I think he just gets excited, although he seemed to have toned it down a bit. He didn't scream "SHOT!!!!" every time someone took a wrister. Actually, it seemed to me as though he was under the weather, because until Colby called him "Bucci" I didn't even recognize the voice. He was effusive for BU when they earned it, especially with the Hutson brothers, but let's face it, BC dominated the game in large stretches.

Was just coming here to say that. Wonder if he’s on a short leash.

Apropos of nothing, for such a decent sized center ice scoreboard, the clock and score part of the board are tiny.

Big win and comeback from Friday. A little hectic at the end, but we held. Good semester with 11 wins. Good position in the HE standings. Do you believe Merrimack is the team to beat right now? They are 3 in the PWR. Don’t have them until after the Beanpot. We’re finally in good shape going into the holidays - 7 in PWR.

Teams in all sports are such copycats these days. Friday night, Jack Edwards was saying how the analytics show that it's better to shoot for the empty net even from your own end rather than gaining the red line first. I just don't see it (yeah, maybe just as many pucks go IN, but that analysis is in a vacuum and doesn't account for the damage incurred by giving UP a goal with tired players on the ice and more faceoffs in our own end - not to mention it doesn't take much time off the clock).

To me, it's similar to that stupid "drop pass" that everyone was using on the power play. Yeah, it sure was hectic at the end, because they just whipped it towards the empty net instead of using up some time, getting it to center ice and then dumping the puck deep.

Looks like Friday night's loss didn't hurt too much in the polls. Or PWR. All things considered, finishing the first half 11-5 is not too shabby, especially since previous first halves have not been too kind. Out of the five losses, the one I most want back is the OT loss to UConn.

BU Hockey Stats tweeted: Terriers enter the Holiday break 11-5-0. The last two seasons that they entered the break with 11 wins, 2008-09 and 2014-15.

Something not to be overlooked this season is that BU has bounced back following each L with a W. While it's frustrating that this team doesn't seem to play their best on Fridays (2-5-0), there's resiliency and they're not letting bad games snowball into losing streaks.
