WCHA 21-22 Season

Do you really believe UW will sweep OSU or is this just wishful thinking?

The homer references in my prognostication was to be a hint that I don't 100% believe UW will sweep, but my absolute belief in my team as constructed this season means I have no choice but to pick them to sweep. I have picked against them in the past, but those teams weren't this good. I think this team is THAT good.

UM better do some damage this weekend or my twisted affection for them is mostly done. They must uphold the glory and honor of the WCHA.

This week's intriguing matchups with 2 series being east west pride matchups and a clash of the Titans:

OSU @ UW - UW is coming off their worst game of the year playing the biggest 2 games of the year. OSU still has to feel bitter about UW knocking them out of the ncaa's last year (well half the team will feel bitter anyway LOL). A homer has to be a homer, UW sweeps.
UM at Colgate - major east west matchup. UM can re-assert themselves nationally here, Gate hasn't really played anyone yet. UM sweeps.
UMD @ St. Thomas - another great gauging the Tommies series. UMD sweeps.
Clarkson @ BSU - Beaver sweep. I will never make a pick in favor of Clarkson, no matter who they play. NEVER.
- OSU and WI split
- UM sweeps with WCHA dominance
- UMD sweeps
- My heart says a Beaver sweep but my head says a split

I wouldn't call it a true prediction but I did say on the OSU thread odds are good for them to split with UW this weekend but for OSU to sweep I described the herculean effort it would require but it wasn't a prediction.
But who would complain if their team swept, unexpected or not?

Tim might. He gets offended if his team gives up a goal above their rationed quota, or if they don't reach double digits against one of those cupcakes that they like to use for padding.

I do struggle if they don't get double digits against the cupcakes, but if they can get 50 sog I feel ok with the effort. Wink.

I'm not quite following the "but who would complain if their team swept"...Did I say something that alluded to this?

It's just we both would love for our respective teams to sweep the other, but would it happen?

Realistically a sweep on the road for OSU is a lot harder than UW sweeping at home, but yes anything is possible. The score ultimately matters, but at this point in the season I am interested in how OSU looks vs WI and how WI looks against OSU. WI has the last change, so how will MJ use that to his advantage? Is OSU rolling 3-4 lines regularly or is Muzzy leaning on the top 2?

Going to pick OSU to sweep. Wisconsin looked uncomfortable in that 3rd period last week. they squandered two third period leads, if I remember correctly.

if it goes to OT it’s hard not to pick Wisco, but I’m going to go with OSU regardless just for fun.

Years ago, a veteran WCHA coach said that you can tell which team won game 1 of a WCHA series by watching the first five minutes of game 2. Meaning, the team that lost the day before is extra motivated for the rematch. That is part of the reason why it is hard to sweep when the two are evenly matched. The team winning the opener thinks they know the level that they'll have to play to win, when in reality, it will take more, because the opponent raises their game.

Look at the UMD WI game 2, UW outshot like 19 to 1 in the first period. WI was getting a little fat and sassy and UMD was not happy.

It was indicative of the play. UMD took it to the sinners that period.

I'm not at all contesting that UMD was better that period; I watched the game. I just don't buy "one shot".

There was a game at Ohio State within the last couple years when all UW could do was ice the puck and dump-and-change. That felt much worse than the first period Sunday did.

Was that the opening game last year? In that one, you could tell that OSU had played a series already and UW hadn't. Or at least, that is how it sort of looked through the blur of the net at the OSU rink.

Wisconsin came out hard & fast controlling the game early but Ohio State scores first and maintained momentum after that but great multiple scoring chances by both teams!
