The discretionary parts of the budget outside of SS, Medicare, and Defense are minimal. They'd be better off actually working on real solutions for real people like the Democrats instead of fighting bills they created when they blew a hole into the budget with the Dump Tax Cuts.

I have a proposal. Repeal the Dump Tax Cuts. Pass a Wealth Tax to go with the Corporate Minimum Tax that should be strengthened.

McCarthy is a craven coward but he isn't a complete idiot. It's easier to extend the debt ceiling until the fall, and then use the budget debate as the bargaining chip. Threatening to blow the debt ceiling now, over SS and Medicare, is a political loser and even McCarthy knows that. But hiding it in an already confusing and opaque budget debate is much easier. Plus, it would layer him from the actual cuts.

I didn't cut national park hours, the National Park Services did! (we just slashed their budget)
I didn't make the IRS utterly impossible to reach at tax season, they did (we just slashed their operating budget)


The only question is whether the Derp Squad would pull the no confidence trigger, or whether they can get on board.
