2011-12 NCHA Thread

Rocking 'The Stone'
Time to start the speculation on the upcoming NCHA season:
##New head coach @ Point...will this change their ranking in the conference?
##SNC reloads after losing 11 seniors off their Ntl Championship team. Which of the new recruits step up and earn ice time?
##Which team(s) challenge SNC's domination in recent years?
Thoughts??

Re: 2011-12 NCHA Thread

the clock is ticking down and with less than a month til first faceoff, the blood is beginning to pump! SNC will most likely struggle with the loss of so many impact players...which really opens up the league early this season. i'm excited to see Stout play this season after overcoming a lot of adversity last season ending the season tied with UWS for 2nd. the blugolds will most likely end up with 3+ 20 point scorers in conference play, sending headaches to blue liners accross the ncha.

UWS brings in young, talented, defensemen in Jeff Forsythe and Brad Phenow along with a top notch netminder in Drew Strandberg. Justin Faryna will undoubtedly be a captain for the yellowjackets, leading them in everything but short handed goals.

You can see your breath in the air these crisp mornings, it's go time! Cheers.

Re: 2011-12 NCHA Thread

This season should be very interesting.

With SNC losing some very important pieces of their team, it will be very important for their recruits and former 3rd and 4th line guys to step up. Interested to see who they will have in goal.
Superior looks to be strong again returning some key pieces, interested to see how they do this season.
Stout again is very young but are returning some very key players to their success in Tom Lescovich and Branden Gay. Stout could surprise teams again this year and although they are young I look for Stout to contend again for the NCHA title.
UW-EC will be a tough team to play again with the amount of goal scoring they return as well as their goalies.
UW-SP will be tough to judge until the new coach's system is in place and they get a few games under their belt, will be interesting to see how Graves does in goal.
UW-RF loses one of their top scorers in Josh Calleja and have to look elsewhere for scoring, this could be a down year for RF but it is the NCHA so no team is going to let down.
CSS needs to improve from their last place in Goals scored and goals allowed in the NCHA, it will be interesting to see how their recruits will help them improve.

All in all the NCHA will be a tough conference to win, where any team can win on any night. It should be a great season to come.

Re: 2011-12 NCHA Thread

I see on the Stout roster Matt Morin is not listed. Had producerd good number before getting injured, does the injury have something to him not being on the roster?

Matt Morin is currently on IR with an upper body injury, whether that is the reason he is currently not on the roster, I can not tell you for sure.

Re: 2011-12 NCHA Thread

UWRF should be better then last year. Calleja was a big loss but they have a bunch coming in including forward d1 transfer Adam cardwell from fairbanks who came in which is where brossman came from.. They have like 8 new forwards on top of what they already had and four new D. Also Jake calleja transfered in from bethel (josh callejas brother) who had 31 pts his first two years at bethel.

Re: 2011-12 NCHA Thread

Were you surprised to see Adrian get as much support as they did? They lost more than SNC did.

Really good question. Yes and no I guess. Even with super strong Norberts squads, the NCHA just has a lot more parity than the MCHA. For this reason, I kind of expected Norberts and Adrian to be treated differently.

Re: 2011-12 NCHA Thread

How did everyone look week 1 outside of the results?

Outside the numbers of the opening NCHA weekend, Stout looked very strong in Friday's game vs UW-Eau Claire and they seemed to have the scoring punch they needed. In Saturday's game they came out slightly flat but picked it up in the 2nd period, just ran into a good goaltender Saturday.

Re: 2011-12 NCHA Thread

StoutHockeyFan44, didn't Stout only have 4 shots on goal in the second period on Sat. night? Also, I think both goalies played great, but Lescovich was more of a wall, UWEC out shot UWST 35-23 and even though both teams had some great chances, there were more than a few saves Lescovich made that were highlights. That game could have easily been 9-4 Eau Claire. Stout has a couple of very good lines up front and Lescovich could be one of the best goalies, if not the best in the NCHA this year. UWEC looked like a team playing its first game on Friday and really rebounded and showed that it has the potential to be a very good team if it keeps improving week in and week out on Sat. night. Either way looking at the standings, it's going to be a very entertaining year in the NCHA again!

I believe you are correct on the shots, and yes Saturday the score could have been much higher than it ended up, I also am looking forward to this season of NCHA Hockey.
