Sure you can move stuff to a more "preservation" type fund as you get closer to retirement, but lol, this has been the easiest stock market to invest in since the stock market was conceived.

90s was based on a tech bubble though...this is based on people with IQs over 12 being in charge.

While I wish you all would not quote The Last Montreal Expos Season Ticket Holder (Chuckles) seeing him whine because he most likely bought large quantities of HCQ which destroyed his retirement is pretty delicious. Crap stocks I bought on a whim for pennies are making money right now and my retirement is up 14% since January. If he is having issues than he is even dumber than he lets on!

yeah, the 90s bubble was bad. But only the money you invested in the "departure from the long term trend" turned to shit. 96-99 give or take. That's obviously not an insignificant amount for a lot of people. never really recovered it either. Didn't help that 9/11 hit at the tail end of that recession. THen just as we were about to hit the 90s highs again, the Great Recession hit.


Anyways, the point is, very few investments beat the S&P long term. If you look at the log plot, you've got a nice straight line that starts after the Great Depression. One interesting note, we've started to depart (over) from that long term trend again...

Everybody knows that being on and off the record is an agreement, not a declaration. So, no, it doesn't contradict journalistic ethics. It does mean they'll never get another statement from her but somehow I don't they're worried about that and a world in which Jen Rubin is never quoted is a world I'd like to live in.
 
Everything she said in that quote was correct though. That is the same crap Politico pulled on Biden about his kid right before a debate. Their TMZ tactics are well known and despised. And I would bet money they did it on Yom Kippur for that exact reason. They have Jews that work there so they knew the score.

Rubin is not my cup of tea politically (especially in a sane world) but she doesn't even rank on the list of media people who I would criticize right now. And I would take her worst articles (a long list!) over pretty much anything Politco puts out. She has gotten pretty bitter towards the "cons" since Trump took the Party so she is a decent follow on Twitter for that reason. She is basically WaPo's version of The Lincoln Project these days.

Put it this way, unless I missed it she isn't telling the world Newsome's victory was actually good news for the California GOP ;^)

[and yes I know this is where you will say that my defending her proves I am the Hillary Centrist you pretend I am but I never agree with her politics just think her writing is decent. Her and the Bari Weiss' of the world can shove their political beliefs up Joe Scarborough's ass and they can all disappear]

I don't think of Politico as having an agenda except insofar as they put a legitimate story right next to a bullsh-t rightwing non-story and possibly thus elide the false equivalency.

Rubin's an idiot but the main things she's an idiot about ("cancel" culture, Palestine) I don't really care about so she's not on my radar either. She is just ridiculous because she always plays those cards to wrap herself in the martyr blanket. And that's offensive to women and religious minorities who really are biased against.

BTW, AFAIK that one Tiger Beat on the Potomac (RIP Old Pio) piece wasn't saying Newsom's win was good for the CA GOP, it was saying it was good for Elder, and that actually may be true. Larry emerged as the de facto underDump for the CA red hat franchise, and he can now use that to grift the CA Dumpies, which should net him millions. He's the new Alan Keyes. Or at least the new 999.

My Elder comment was about her, not them. She is one of the few in the MSM that never pushed that which is an example of why I don't hate her as much as most of the rest of the media. I didn't read TMZ's opinion on the recall because, well, they suck ;^)

I can separate the writer from the subject which is why I don't mind Rubin even though her opinions tend to suck about things I care about. (though she is coming around on some) Honestly though these days it is mostly her Twitter I care about because I love watching her attack the Right...many of the same people she used to defend. (and probably would again if they got rid of fascists) There is a certain amount of hopefulness I get from that, which for a cynic like me is needed. Plus, unlike frauds like Bill Krystal and David Frum I don't think she would flip back on a dime if the less crazy wing of the GOP took control again. I think she would stick as a Biden Centrist at this point just not hate the Right to the levels she does now.

PMZ has only one agenda, to try and promote PMZ. They are carnival barkers now. That is why the published that email and why they probably think it is a good thing they are getting spit roasted over it. In reality all it did was up sales of Rubin's upcoming book and clickbait their tweets. If that is who they want to be fine, but don't couch it in some sort of moral superiority and pretend you are legit...the real TMZ doesn't pretend it is the NYTimes afterall. CNN should take that advice too...

(and I was just staving off you and your recent "Handycrats" schtick :^) )
