POTUS 46.10: A New Hope

If we knew that why didn’t we have everyone out we wanted out? That’s what is frustrating.

Like for Viet Nam- where do you stop?

Then again, I'm sure people thought that the Afghani would fight for their country. That does not seem to be happening.

And if Biden had refused to honor the agreement they would have destroyed him for that.

With that said it is rather inexcusable how badly this is going. It just seems disorganized and well...Trumpian. There is no way this won't be a black mark for Biden and his Foreign Policy fair or not.

But read a thing yesterday that said Biden is going off the experience of Obama when the military pressed him for "The surge", and more commitment of troops. If Biden just didn't get the heck out now, then he was gonna be faced with the same thing, the military saying they couldn't do whatever his plans for a slower, longterm withdrawal plan, and slow-walk or deliberately countermand his efforts to do get out.

It was get out, or continue to be stuck there forever.

And our military has been "building up" an Afghan military for 20 years. With top dollar equipment, and air power, generously brought to you by the US taxpayer. Why aren't people questioning their utter incompetence at doing their jobs? And the waste of money.

Instead, it's all Biden's fault, because he did what Wee Donnie One-term ran on, and then never did, get the fuck out.

Yeah, this is the conclusion I have come to. It appears clear that the mission and the execution there for the last 20 years has been a complete disaster. We need to rethink how we handle situations like this going forward because now it's happened twice. First ISIS and now the Taliban. They will just wait you out so why go in in the first place?

Did we ever have a mission in Afghanistan, particularly once OBL was terminated?

Yes. We wanted to nation build a democratic stable government there with a military that could protect itself from the Taliban and other groups. Our 20 years netted us one week.

Says who? George clearly said he was not going to do nation building, so if we were doing that- he started on the wrong foot. Obama didn't help, dumpy didn't do anything, and now it's just time to cut our losses.

The simple fact that it's falling apart this fast is a clear indicator of our waste of lives, money, and effort.

And, as usual, Duncan Black nails it. We trained the Afghan forces to be dependent on US support, so our military could never leave. All part of the plan for the MIC.

I don't disagree with any of this but it is clear that that was the mission under the table. Otherwise why would you spend 20 years there and all that money training their soldiers? We literally spent 2 trillion dollars on it. You know what we could have done with 2 trillion dollars?

It's not even a failure, it's the nature of the dissolution of an empire. It's happened with, literally, every pullout in history. The Romano-British would like a word.

It's also twice now in the last 10 years that we have broken the pottery barn rule. Apparently that isn't really a rule.

If you're talking about who "broke" Afghanistan, that isn't the question.

There is no Afghanistan. It shouldn't even have been "put together" in the first place. It's like 75% of the countries in Africa -- all these places should dissolve their arbitrary borders and reform them organically.

Key word: they should do it. It's about time the US, UK, France et al. stopped playing Risk with other people's countries. If Russia and China want to bankruptand destabilize themselves doing it, vaya con Dios.
