US Foreign Policy 3.0: We're The Mets of International Diplomacy

I'm not of the "Fuck around and find out" mentality on this one. At least on the PR front, which is where the battle currently is.

On the military side, I'm almost certain that we have much, MUCH deeper intelligence as to the current, realistic capability of Russia (and every other nuclear power). As much as the Cold War was all showmanship on this front, the military absolutely knew and took that info to heart.

If it was a blatant front from the beginning, NATO would have moved in right away to aid Ukraine. Given how everyone danced around regarding direct involvement, at minimum, Russia has the capability to Macgyver something together that would equal something the size of the OG nukes dropped in 1945. At least that's what I feel the floor is. Despite their shortcomings, Russia very easily could be much stronger than that.

Putin will use nukes if he's teetering on the brink of personally losing power, just like Dump or L'il Kim would. They have no conscience, they are socipaths.

The trick is letting their inner circle know that offing a danger of that magnitude will not go unrewarded by the international community.

Article is paywalled.

When I hit that wall, there was some note about the article being F15's being pulled out of Okinawa. Given that it looks more likely that China will try to get land back from Russia rather than invading Taiwan, I'm not sure why it's a bad thing. And not reading the article, can't tell if they are being replaced.

I thought we had been completely kicked out of Okinawa after, you know, raping their population for decades. Although the Japanese don't actually give a sh-t about the indigenous population either. It's how we treat our tribes.

Wait, what? You're going to have to enlighten me on several points of this post

1. American servicemen stationed in Okinawa had a habit of gang raping the local underage flora and fauna cuz, you know, conservative values. This didn't sit well with the locals and so there was a lot of trouble which we either buried or bullied our way out of.

2. The Japanese, who are even more insanely racist than Republicans, really could not be bothered as long as we stuck to nailing the equivalent, to them, of Navajos. But as the Japanese far right got more power they began to use it as a campaign issue and discriminator, so to speak, to gain traction with Nippon nationalists.

3. Eventually we were forced off the island, I assume because Uncle Sam was going to have to start paying out significant civil penalties for the rapes in addition to the bribes to Japanese civil authorities and hush money to Japanese military and diplomatic staff.

Lesson: you can take the soldier out of the South but you can't take the South out of the soldier.

Okinawa was an independent country until almost 1880-ish. Japan then annexed it and treated the ethnic populations there like we treated the Native Americans. But I do think we have some bases still on the island.
