US Foreign Policy 3.0: We're The Mets of International Diplomacy

Biggest of them were from the Wagner group, who are known for Russia's most heinous war crimes.

You know these guys are going to turn out to be affiliated with Academi, the Oath Keepers, Three Percenters, the Proud Boys, the GOP, and probably the Fraternal Order of Police.

Historically that actually makes sense. I'm sure the Soviets knew that they would likely be the instigators if things were ever pushed that far and prepared for the fallout (lulz) of that.

Au contraire. USSR Doctrine was planning for NATO tactical nuclear retaliation after a quick Russian swipe across Central Europe. Both sides pretty much had it set in stone if the Warsaw Pact ever launched an armored attack across the Fulda Gap they would have complete control of Germany unless NATO nuked Czechoslovakia and Poland.

We were always gonna be the ones who used first. They didn't need to: they had a huge tactical advantage which they *had* to press all out because they knew their only chance was a quick knockout.

It never happened because they were sure we would have obliterated their entire war making capacity, leaving them utterly at the mercy of a counter that would end World Socialism (and the Politburo fatheads) forever.

In the event, they went into the dark night without firing a shot. A truly amazing act of restraint. Can you imagine the US allowing itself to go under without taking the rest of the world with us? Not with our ego.

This time around it's different. I'm convinced nothing will stop Putin from stepping across the tactical nuke barrier if he is otherwise going to be beheaded, unless his own people physically stop him. Which, well, let's hope.

The best thing that could happen for the world is a long painful war of attrition with both sides locking down positions. Unfortunately that would be unbelievably brutal to Ukraine.

Russian rocket attack on railway station where thousands of evacuees were boarding trains in Donetsk to escape the coming attack. Note those evacuees probably included many Russian supporters.

The rockets used.

End the Right. Everywhere.

Yemen's President does a peace out.

Yemen's president said on Thursday he has dismissed Vice President Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar and delegated his own powers to a presidential council that will carry out leadership duties.

I wouldn't want that job, either.

Another on-air gaffe with Russian State TV, this time leading to a meltdown live by the show's host...

"We'll do it live!"

I love it when these fascists get the heebie jeebies. On the one hand, they can't handle anything off script -- they have the mental acuity and flexibility of a runny nose. On the other hand, they are terrified that the red phone will ring and Putin (or Dump) will give them a "vote of confidence."

The Right, in addition to their cowardice and amorality, are simply incompetent.

Meanwhile, nobody stops this train.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv on Friday presented Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with paperwork for his country to join the European Union.

Handing over a document at a joint press conference, she said: "This is where your path towards the European Union begins."

"We stand ready to support you in filling out this questionnaire," von der Leyen said, adding: "It will not be, as usual, a matter of years, but rather a matter of weeks" to complete this step.

The questionnaire, she explained, forms the basis of an opinion that gets passed on to the European Council.

Von der Leyen said she intended to, "present Ukraine's application to the [European] Council this summer."

During the joint press conference von der Leyen said: "Russia will descend in economic, financial and technological decay while Ukraine is marching towards a European future."

I'll panic if the French left wing doesn't turn out in the second round. The Le Pen family usually shoots off their foot while calling for a final solution and finish with ~35%

So a Russian soldier raped a toddler and filmed it, and it’s being passed around twitter.

Republicans taking notes
