You mean HERETICS, right?

Positivity rate stat has always confused me a little. Wouldn't you kind of expect the rate to be high? Who goes to get tested unless they think there is a decent chance or they suspect it may be positive? Exclusions of course for those in high risk positions and get regularly tested.

Taking a look at just one metric is never the proper methodology, but when one of those metrics in one Midwestern state is so far worse and out-of-whack with other Midwestern states the question is still valid.

To answer your question, no, I don't expect the rate to be high. Because, as you noted, a lot of people who may be asymptomatic are getting tested, as they should be. Wisconsin is clearly doing something wrong in comparison to other states. 9 or 10% compared to 7? That could be just the fortunes of war. But we are more than 4 times the rate of Ohio. That begs an explanation.

Is that where "winner, winner, chicken dinner" comes from? I always thought that was a Canadian thing because the first guy I ever heard say it was basically real life Letterkenny -- Marty Standish of the 1998 Memorial Cup Champion Portland Winterhawks, from Kelvington, SK -- a town "so flat you could watch your dog run away."

When you said Wiiisconsin, you’ve said it all!!

Give it time. We're next. **** is absolutely hitting the fan here. As a coworker put it "bad neighborhood"

The state's own dial back dashboard tells us we should be locking down. This is like watching one of those (amazing!) NCSB videos where an operator just kept muting alarms and locking valves open. "I really don't understand why the plant blew up." We're at 5x alarm state for cases/100k, 2.5x hospital capacity alarm, and 1.2x no-known-exposure alarm. Yet, we got stories of high school football teams practicing "despite the snow". They said that exact phrase without any hint of irony or pause. What are we doing...???

Edit: Coworker also shared this gem. The guy posts an update every day.
Edit2: Just want to point out that massive inflection comes almost exactly one month after Sturgis. That event fucked us all.

I mean yes and no. My wife has gotten tested a couple of times because she was either exposed or had an unmasked interaction in an emergency situation. There's also people who get a cold and want to make sure. Some people are getting tested daily or weekly because of their job. Anyways, we should be doing random community canvasing and getting a better picture of how to fight this fire. Where are the hotspots? Who's already had it? Where? etc.

It's also context. If you had five tests and one came back positive, you'd be right. But you should be also targeting a certain number of tests/100k. Ideally, you'd test every person every day. Obviously you can't do that. So you just take all of the reasons for getting tested and pool them. What you're getting at is also why "no known contact positives" are so important. When that number goes up, it means you're getting tested because you're already sick.

Here's a good place to start. You'll note that Wisconsin is at 285% the testing target. That's generally a good thing. You should be seeing a low positivity rate if a lot of people are getting tested. When you're testing a lot and you have a high positivity, it means you should also be increasing your testing targets because you've got faster spread.

You're not wrong when we're in normal circumstances. Unfortunately, we're in a pandemic. A fact lost on a lot of people.

I'm sorry, is a "meat raffle" a real thing or are you pulling the coastie's leg?

(Looks)

Oh Sweet Jesus.

Meat raffles are amazing. Don't hate. I have been drinking in at least a dozen VFWs or munis where I've played.

Mostly steaks, bacon, pork chops & loins, sausages, burgers. I've seen trays of lasagna, stuffed chicken breasts, and even legit charcuterie too. Some of the baskets are pretty nice. I've won a ocuple of really nice prime NY strips among other things.

Seriously though, happy hour after work at the VFW, throw in a couple bucks and maybe have a great dinner that night. It's great!

Yeah everyone who went to sturgis can die a miserable, slow death.

a family friend now has covid and it came from one of his kids, who keep visiting him at home like nothing has changed. Now he’s going to die alone in a hospital and his kids can wonder who gave it to him. He’s old- but this isn’t how he should have went.

people are still going to get together at thanksgiving and a bunch of people will be dead by Xmas. But their freeeedumbs
