Grand unified 2020 election thread

In 2016 and 2018 I poured so much of my time into election work with the union in Ohio I didn't bother watching the returns for more than about an hour in 2016 and maybe 30 minutes in 2018. By the time our polls closed I was so fed up with "the election" I didn't want to pay any attention until we had final results. By 11:00 eastern I shut off the tv and went to bed. This time, I did no election work other than voting and some phone banking from home because my Wisconsin union does no politics. So watching this like I used to and it is making me ill. I know it is early and we have been warned repeatedly that Michigan and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin will take a long time to report, but still....... Right now all I got is God help us.

At this point, even if Biden wins, these results show us how totally messed up we are.

Republicans think it's funny to screw with pollsters...that's why errors always seem to favor them.

Many years ago an old high school friend of mine met and married a hard core evangelical Christian. They ended up in Iowa. In the year 2000 another friend of ours and I travelled to Iowa to visit and we talked a little about the election with them (mostly him). He told me that his church was part of a movement then for evangelicals to lie to pollsters to mess with their data. Nice. An evangelical Christian scheming to lie for a political gain.

An ironic post-script to that Iowa couple, he eventually cheated on my friend and left her, for a former preacher. Far too many Christians are swimming in a sea of hypocrisy.

Looks like early vote counts in WI, MI, and PA are being vastly undercounted, so vote tallies so far are skewing heavily to today's in person votes. Mi says 24 hours for results.

Ramsey County (MN) is at like 2% reported. Some of the other major TC counties are low too. Weird...

Oh joy, 538:

It was always a long shot that a winner would be declared tonight, but now it looks like we might not even have a good idea who’s won when we go to bed. Georgia has had enough problems that it seems like it will be impossible to project tonight. North Carolina looks close enough that it might come down to late-arriving mail ballots. And we’ve long known that results in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin won’t be final for a day or three. Ultimately, I think the presidency comes down to those three states — which, unfortunately, we know the least about right now.

CNN seems to be cheer leading too much, trying to calm the nerves of people like me. It isn't working.

I like when they show how much of the count so far is early, and how much of the total vote will be early. In places where the latter is a much higher percentage, Dems should probably breathe a bit, especially if it is close.

They are right though. I mean Michigan looks bad but almost none of Detroit has been counted yet. Pennsylvania has over 200k absentee ballots that havent been counted in Philly if I heard right. Without knowing how the ballots are counted it is hard to even know where we are in the game.
