Covfefe-19 The 12th Part: The Only Thing Worse Than This New Board Is TrumpVirus2020

Oh.

“Breaking News: The White House blocked a CDC order to keep cruise ships docked until February, a step that would have displeased the politically powerful tourism industry in the crucial swing state of Florida.”

Well I mean if he wants to quarantine the stupid on ships that is fine. Here is hoping they voted by mail so they dont get counted ;-)

It's democracy's greatest flaw. Stupid people think sovereign equality means their opinion is as valid as an expert's knowledge. Note that expertise has not decreased, though. On the contrary, one of democracy's great strengths is how it amplifies and spreads expertise.

We have not been able to come up with a true meritocracy based on intelligence and wisdom yet. And Plato's Republic is hell on Earth. So we're stuck with this.

Perhaps we need a democracy punctuated with wars to cull the bottom. Peaceful democratic states could have massive attrition battles every 20 years far away from populated places. We could use Iowa.

Spoken like a true elitist. Not surprising, though, hardly.

The "flaw" is hardly with democracy. The flaw is with lawyers and the "experts" themselves. You've all heard discussion on another thread of how a DA "can get a ham sandwich indicted". Well, in both criminal AND civil litigation, the sad truth is, you can pretty much get a so-called "expert" to testify to virtually anything. It's especially important in civil litigation, where a qualified expert's opinion (more on that later) will almost always allow a plaintiff to escape summary judgment motions on the most ridiculous of cases. The "expert" field is a cottage industry, and it's motivated by certain practitioners who will say and do almost anything to get paid. And they get paid enormously well. So you could say it's a greed issue as well.

The prevalence of "junk science" in virtually all fields - medical, engineering, etc. ad nauseum - can be traced to the Federal Courts' adoption of the so-called Daubert standard (based on the Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals 1993 case), which sets up a test for admissibility of expert testimony. It was a US Supreme Court case where liberal Justice Blackmun (ironically a Nixon appointee) broadened the admissibility of fringe expert testimony/theories, replacing the Frye standard. The link below explains the case and sequence of events a little more thoroughly ... but since then, "expert" testimony has boomed as academics and retired practitioners fought with each other to get in line to grab their slice of the pie:

https://www.forensisgroup.com/dauber...ert-testimony/

With the explosion of the "expert" cottage industry in all areas of litigation, there are now many databases utilized in litigation practice which tracks "expert" opinions on various cases on an expert-by-expert basis. It is quite humorous when a so-called "expert" has irreconcilable testimony on the record on both sides of an issue. You can imagine how well that plays in front of a civil jury. But regardless, the "expert" still gets paid.

So much for "(coming) up with a true meritocracy based on intelligence and wisdom" ...

I see Chuckles has finally recovered from the epic shitshow his idol displayed last night.

Tell us Chucky boy, was drooling Joe Biden awake for the whole thing?

Does make me feel a little better to hear about others and the leg issues. I’ll have emg test next week. I have a feeling it could stick around for a while and if that’s the case perhaps I’m in better shape than many others

Mine legs was bad in late March but they seem to be getting better, the worst symptom for me and the one that has been really persistent for me the whole time it the gastrointestinal issue: it's pretty brutal

Now the goalposts have been shifted where the alarmists are now adopting OUR original concerns.

You don't have to be a connoisseur of irony to laugh out loud at the brazen hypocrisy of it all.

Remember the "cure is worse than the illness" debate months ago, Whalers?

Chuck, I do remember those dark days when we were trying to look at the big picture and keep people from just cowering in their basements in fear. We are now starting to see the hard evidence on how well the "Cure" has worked in so many unintended ways within our communities. Also seeing clearly that the goalposts have always been in constant change, but the cast of characters in THIS basement never changes.
_______

Hey, do remember this one??

"I am all for you numbnuts campaigning on a cops and firefighters should get a pay cut platform! Start running ads pronto!"[/quote]

_______

Wow! How times have changed since early April. To get the country back to work, I floated the idea about cutting PUBLIC workers salaries so they felt the same pain as the private sector. My idea was based on "We are in this together". Not Present and Rover quickly concluded that this idea was certainly less than SmaHt.

Looks like someone stole my idea because over the last 3 months, BLM and Dem city Mayors and Councils not only want to give the police a salary cut, they want to ELIMINATE their jobs altogether! How's that for a pay cut? Then Rover, they stole YOUR idea and put together some awesome TV ads to drive home their point, punctuated by lively bonfires, HUGE shopping discounts and celebratory fireworks. I guess they could only get Ad time on Fox News for these commercials, because I never saw their spots run on CNN or MSNBC.

EDIT - Had to adjust my search term, then quickly found one of the ads on CNN. "Police Salary Reduction" didn't work but COMPLETELY DEFUND THE POLICE did. Sorry for the confusion, I obviously should have used my thesaurus first.

If you are interested in the seeing the entire Ad, go to the link below and I am sure you will be 100% convinced that because we are "All in this Together", going beyond my original Salary Reduction and on to TOTALLY DEFUND makes more sense. :-)
