Another Mass Shooting: It's Those Darn Video Games!

There is one reason, and one reason only as to why the AR-15 has been a popular choice for these mass shootings. The appearance of the weapon.

You think these 18 year olds sat down and studied the ballistics and lethality of various caliber choices before choosing the AR-15 as their weapon?

They chose it because it looks like an army gun. It looks like a rifle cops might carry.

That is literally it, the appearance.

I call bullshit.

It's the weapon of choice because it's a killing machine.

Yeah, and IF EVERY OTHER FUCKING COUNTRY IN THE WORLD HAD A SIMILAR NUMBER OF MASS SHOOTINGS, MAYBE IT WOULD BE CORRECT. News flash in case you weren't aware, they don't happen in other countries like they do here. Explain that to me.

Confiscation, baby. Sign me up. Someone's got to do it.

Silly. Other countries don't have porn, or rap music, or people with mental health issues, or violent movies, or video games.

It’s complete horseshit. It starts with a false dichotomy (the crisis either has a 100% effective, easy-to-implement solution OR there’s no possible way to make improvements) and then goes downhill from there.

“Everyone agrees” that measure A wouldn’t have stopped shooting X. And just leave that actual fact lingering, curling around the room like a wisp of smoke, until the readers walk away thinking that “everyone agrees” that measure A would have no statistical impact on the number of deaths.

And that’s just what I saw in the free preview. I can only imagine the assault on my intelligence that would have occurred had I read the rest of the article.

Not surprised that it impressed you, however.

This.

Ammunition and guns should be broken into three/four categories. All rated by the foot-pounds of the bullet fired.
Then each tier can gradually get limited in who can purchase.

Airsoft? Go wild, unrestricted.
FOID card for the rest plus:
22LR? Age 18 minimum plus a class on handling, etc.
From there to .38? 21 + class
From there to .45? 23, advanced class, proof of storage container.
"Advanced ammo" packing more punch than a .45 (.227, .50, etc,)? 25, advanced classes, proof of storage container (gun safe).

This is not a bad idea.

From a hunting perspective, I feel there may need to be some tweaking to have the lines fall at major ballistical differences in common hunting rounds, but I can buy into this. Also, I can honestly see this just flat out shifting hunting behavior because people that fit hillbilly stereotypes are too stupid/ignorant to meet the regulations on the more advanced classification.

Forget the labels, ban the physics. There’s no reason for civilians to own weapons beyond a certain (legitimately debatable) muzzle energy over time. You want a gun that shoots a .223? No problem - it just has to be designed such that it can’t fire more than 1 round per minute. You want a rapid fire semi-automatic? No problem - enjoy that pellet gun.

Makes way too much sense...

Hmmm I wonder why the only country where there are mass shootings is America. No, it obviously isn't the guns. It must be the doors. Or mental health. Or video games. Or rap music. Or abortion. Or...

What the fuck are you talking about? Afghanistan has them all the time.

A GOP representative called for banning assault weapons. Every other Republican who had endorsed him immediately withdrew their support. Today he dropped out.

Rep. Chris Jacobs (R-N.Y.) announced that he would suspend his reelection campaign Friday after facing pressure by his party to step aside for coming out in support of gun reforms as a solution to stem the tide of mass shootings in the country in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, in Milwaukee, an ammosexual sought a "second amendment remedy" by murdering a retired judge. The guy had a list of targets, including former Governor Tony Evers.

Just another day in the greatest nation in the history of the world.

The beauty is that it’s entirely consistent with the reason we don’t let private citizens own bazookas and flamethrowers and Hellfire missiles - too much energy delivered in a very short time. You don’t even need a separate law - it’s all on the same spectrum.

He meant any developed country.

Look, I want mental health funding more than anyone on this board, but a vast improvement in people’s mental health won’t make much, if any, of a dent on gun violence. The United States does not have a statistically significant difference in the number of people with chronic, ongoing mental health issues versus any other developed country. It’s a variable that’s already controlled for when it comes to gun violence. Put a gun between two perfectly sane people, and the chances of gun violence happening is much higher than no gun placed between two actively psychotic people. Thousands of mentally stable people have shot and killed other people. Mental health, while woefully underfunded and under appreciated, has nothing to do with gun violence.
The only differences between us and them are guns and ammunition. Ban, restrict, tax.

Woosh

You can have one, or just takes a lifetime to load.

Even though cry-baby republicans changed the rules after Evers was elected to basically give him the power of a former governor, he is still the current governor of Wisconsin.

As soon as another "patriot" seeks a "second amendment remedy" he'll be the formerly alive governor of Wisconsin.
