YOUR POWER RANKINGS!: Hockey East Head Coaches

Re: YOUR POWER RANKINGS!: Hockey East Head Coaches

Maybe. So far there is a single line out of one reporter that appears to be out of the blue. No other sources, no other info (well except hokydad). It maybe the case, but I'm skeptical right now.

Hokeydope writes for CHN now? ;)

One other thing I noticed with that article: Saponari is playing for Dubuque, not Fargo.

I noticed that too. If there was only some way a journalist could easily and quickly check facts without moving from their desks by typing a few key words and pressing enter on their typer machine....

Re: YOUR POWER RANKINGS!: Hockey East Head Coaches

Sometimes college coaches use rumors of themselves leaving as leverage to get better contracts for themselves, their budgets, improve facilities, or get a larger recruiting budget. Not saying that is happening here but I am usually skeptical about stories of coaches leaving a position they are comfortable in until I hear an official announcement.

Yea, clearly Cronin is leveraging this news to gain something from his boss, the AD that just slapped the guy with a suspension for violating recruiting rules. He's in a strong position with the AD for sure!

Mullins has to have the worst ice in HE. One Zamboni? There are railings everywhere and I love the doors that you need to open to get to your seats from the concourse. Alfond and Matthews are different as they have been around for a long time. Mullins is, what, 20 years old?

Re: YOUR POWER RANKINGS!: Hockey East Head Coaches

IMO, Cronin doesn't look good here. He already worked under a cheater at Maine and didn't seem to learn any lessons. Now he's gonna leave NU high and dry because of his own mistakes? Good coach, but doesn't seem to be a character guy.

As for these rankings, I refuse to rank guys that I have yet to see perform at their new schools (Leaman/Bazin). As for the actual ranking, it's #1 and then a huge gap.

Re: YOUR POWER RANKINGS!: Hockey East Head Coaches

I don't think you can truly rate the coaches accurately without controlling a bunch of variables. Call Steven Leavitt. Some schools just have big advantages over others and each coach has to work with what he has.

Some are good recruiters and others are good x and 0 guys. Some are good motivators and some are not.

The most obvious observations I could make are that York is a good recruiter and a good motivator while Parker specializes in draft picks (good recruiter of talent but so sure of their character) and is a horrible motivator (nobody does less with more).

I think if you put Sneddon or Dennehy at BC or BU they would get to their share of frozen fours.

Leamen will be interesting to watch.

Re: YOUR POWER RANKINGS!: Hockey East Head Coaches

Two thoughts. I admire Dennehy as a coach, but he just had his first NCAA tournament team. Umile's teams have been in the tournament 14 of the last 15 years. And this year UNH advanced to the regional final, Merrimack didn't. Maybe some day Dennehy will surpass Umile's record, but not yet.

As for Cronin, my gut tells me he is gone. Beyond his tutelage under Walsh, I get the impression that he is a no-nonsense tough guy (didn't he have his players take boxing lessons a couple of years ago?). Appears to be the antithesis of Peter Roby, the AD. The texting stuff and the penalty that ensued was probably too much for him to take. No one likes to have someone looking over his shoulder all the time and there is no doubt that is what Roby will be doing, guaranteed.

Re: YOUR POWER RANKINGS!: Hockey East Head Coaches

as far as ranking which coach is the most powerful cro dawg by a mile. his arms are the size of sequoia trees.

And his cranium is bigger than Barry Bonds'...when I saw him go after Parker roid rage was the first thing that came to mind.

This is pretty much spot on.
