I did this a few years ago and still have the results. I'd be curious to see if people's views have changed since then, and how the board aligns politically these days.
We don't need to turn this into another political thread. If you want to discuss policy there are plenty of threads for that. I want to focus on the questions and the results.

June 2014: Left Moderate Social Libretarian.
Left: 6.73, Libertarian: 2.15
Foreign Policy: -3.67 Culture: -7.17

January 2012: Far-left Social Moderate
Left: 7.85, Libertarian: .62
Foreign Policy: -2.01 Culture: -4.45

My results turned out further to the left on foreign policy than I expected, though that may be because I found those questions repetitive and started to tune them out. But overall about as I expected, on the lower left quadrant of the overall chart as rendered on the site, but in the "upper right quadrant" of the lower left quadrant, if that makes any sense.

The open ended questions such as: If an unwed teen becomes pregnant, abortion may be a responsible choice. bothered me. "May" in this instance, is so wide-open that it could greatly skew the leanings. Date rape? One night of fun? Incest? Consensual? It focuses on age, rather than act.

Well, yeah, they're making the questions as open-ended as possible so that you take time and then they hope you side with them. The questions are framed in a way to get you going in a certain direction (theirs), but general enough for people to take a moment for internal debate - if you have any - on that question. It's meant to drive votes to their candidates come election day, so they create a questionnaire with questions that lead you more towards their conclusion than you might have otherwise. Political parties are all the same, regardless of their platform, they all want your votes.

Well, duh. The contrast in open-ness struck me, when hit with the question I brought up. Some are very specific, some are wayyyyyyy open. I'll just vote to cause chaos, and leave it at that. F all politicians.

That's one reason so few issues ever get "decided." If you keep an issue "open" then they can keep coming back to you over and over again for more contributions.

IMHO, that's the single most important reason why the tax code is always so complicated. :mad:
