Yogi Berra & the Presidential Medal of Freedom

As Yogi says, "It ain't over until it's over."

The petition needs 100K signatures by midnight tonight. As of now, just over <strike>2,000</strike> 200 are needed to reach the goal.

Let's help to get a D-Day veteran, HoF ballplayer and above all, a great citizen and role model an honor he richly deserves.

I never got the confirming message, but the goal was reached anyway.

Have you ever read his account of his D-Day experience? Harrowing stuff. It's a wonder he was able to live the rest of his life with such a positive outlook.

Same as James (Scotty) Doohan, who survived Juno Beach.

“The sea was rough,” he recalled. “We were more afraid of drowning than the Germans.” The Canadians crossed a minefield laid for tanks; the soldiers weren’t heavy enough to detonate the bombs. At 11:30 that night, he was machine-gunned, taking six hits: one that took off his middle right finger (he managed to hide the missing finger on screen), four in his leg and one in the chest. Fortunately the chest bullet was stopped by his silver cigarette case.
