Yale's Mandi Schwartz

Re: Yale's Mandi Schwartz

Since I accept the fact that all of the USCHO forum folks are better techies than I, if you go to Facebook, and look for, Become Mandi's Hero, you will be able to find out what you can do to help...this Dr. Collins, whom is seen in the Yale video, is quite a guy....he answers everything you send him right away, and is simply awesome!

IIRC, Dr Collins lost a daughther himself to the disease sometime last year. She was a Med student at Yale. There is yet another current student-athlete at Yale (besides Mandi) affected. All three are of mixed heritage making finding a match much more of a challenge.

Re: Yale's Mandi Schwartz

I was speaking with a friend today and he wondered if anyone may have access to Don Cherry or Ron Maclean or anyone from CBC. For one more night at least...they have one of the largest audiences available to get the donor message out to the masses.

Please help...

EDIT: I wrote an email to the CBC addressed to Ron & Don championing the immediate need for exposure with respect to Mandi`s donor requirements.

Maybe it wouldn`t hurt for each of you to do the same...

Re: Yale's Mandi Schwartz

I posted the following on the mens boards tonight...

Here is Mandi's plight.

Here's how you might be able to help:

I would be remiss if I didn't approach every hockey fan regardless of Nationality to send an email to CBC with the headline Mandi Schwartz expressing your interest in having Don Cherry feature Mandi's story on HNIC tomorrow night. This in an effort to raise immediate awareness of Mandi's and many others... need for a core blood donor. It's a long shot...I know, but exposing Mandi's story on Canada's National Broadcaster, to what will likely be the largest hockey audience on record watching a game six is a long shot that will be taken.

Spread the word. If it isn't enough that one life begins during the delivery of a child, something so simple as donating core blood could in all likelihood save another. Who knew?

God Speed Mandi.....

Done. I also contacted the President (a family friend) of the Toronto area Ukrainian Catholic church to spread the word through their congregation, and to a Doctor friend who writes a weekly medical column in the local paper. Both have agreed to help.

Re: Yale's Mandi Schwartz

This past weekend at the Prospects event in Toronto, I saw the former Yale
assistant coach give a brief but impassioned talk about Mandi. He was obviously totally committed to helping save his former player's life. It was inspiring to hear that and brought tears to my eyes, my daughters eyes and to many others in the crowd.

Who are you talking about...Harry?

Re: Yale's Mandi Schwartz

Her story was featured on SportsCenter yesterday too. I'm already on the bone marrow list. It's not too difficult and could save a life.

Re: Yale's Mandi Schwartz

Let's keep her in our thoughts and prayers. My own experience is it's very good to have people in your corner supporting you in this way...the more the better. Prayers for complete success and recovery Mandi!
