Yale's Mandi Schwartz

Re: Yale's Mandi Schwartz

True a terrible story! Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery to you Mandi!

Re: Yale's Mandi Schwartz

As well as getting into the bone marrow registry, it would be good if some could become regular platelet donors. Look up apheresis. I give every other week, have been for more than 10 years and they always need new donors. You can give once a month, twice a year, etc etc, but it is a very rewarding experience. When I give, I always think of the recipient of my platelets. It doesn't hurt, certainly not as much as cancer hurts. I'm not trying to preach, but it is a rewarding experience.

Best wishes to Mandi. I will be thinking of her a week from Saturday at 10AM.

I might add, that my 24 yr. old daughter is a regular donor also, and when I go the red cross, the workers tell me they wish more younger people would come because most don't really know much about it.

More to be announced soon.

I've done my part to help the cause - I'm already listed in the national bone marrow registry, and I've put up a blog post on Without a Peer, the RPI Hockey blog I maintain, detailing (with a pair of Yale-produced videos) Mandi's condition and what people can do to help.

Re: Yale's Mandi Schwartz

I just wrote to the Eaddress that USCHO provided in their article, about possibly being able to hold a drive here on the Seaoast of NH....I work in a hospital and would have to believe that there's something we can do to help. I will be talking with the ob/gyn docs I work with about getting them to help with the cord blood.......Thanks rinkrat for the idea about blood platlets, I'll look into it. Fair winds to you Mandi.....

Someone asked me today, what it takes to get a blood drive going here in boston. Can anyone shed some light?

I'd like to offer my encouragement and prayers for Mandi. I know the agony of needing and waiting for a transplant first hand, it's no picnic...it sucks. Not to mention the agony of the treatments while waiting. It's the battle of a lifetime. Stay strong and hang tough. My prayers for all the matching donors you need for your cure.

Re: Yale's Mandi Schwartz

I got a response from Dr. Collins on my asking about holding a drive for Mandi....he basically steared me towards asking the ob/gyn Docs that I work with to get involved by putting the pamphlet about core blood in their offices and making the expectant mothers aware of the situation, and how easy is for them to help.....I probably will put some pamphlets up in Maternity so it's another avenue.....all I did rinkrat was to read all the info that every link and story is avaiable from the original story at USCHO.....her FB page says they are down tp 60 days, which is why I think Dr. Collins lead me away from a drive, since it does take time to get everything that is needed coordinated, but that is conjecture on my part....keep the skates moving Mandi....G-d bless
