so is there a preferrable way for things to fall for the US?
as far who wins the Inter-confederation play-offs? Is it preferrable that argentina get in?

Is it preferable that Argentina get in? Uh, no.

Most of us have concluded that we'd rather see Honduras qualify tonight than Costa Rica. We can help out substantially by reaching one of our own goals and finishing in 1st place by beating the Ticos tonight. Honestly, Costa Rica might have a better shot at winning a playoff with a South American team, too, so it's a win-win-win with that scenario.

Doesn't really matter. The US isn't getting a seed, so meh.

Argentina would be through right now, it's 0-0 in Montevideo, and Chile leads Ecuador 1-0.

Argentina goes up 1-0 on Uruguay in the 84'. Uruguay also picks up a red card. Luckily for them, Caceres only misses their CONCACAF playoff game, and not WC game #1.

Ecuador also picked up a red.

How do they decide who hosts the first CONMEBOL-CONCACAF game?

Uruguay picked up a second red deep in injury time.

What I am getting at is that normally there is the seeded pot and then the other pots for the draw break down confederation lines...
More than likely the top 8 will be:
South Africa (Host)
Brazil
Argentina
5 European countries

That leaves the remaining countries are broken down as follows:
8 UEFA
2/3 CONMEBOL
3/4 CONCACAF
5 CAF
4/5 AFC
0/1 OFC

if AFC/OFC goes to AFC and CONCACAF/CONMEBOL goes CONCACAF
that leaves the breakdown as
8 UEFA
2 CONMEBOL
4 CONCACAF
5 CAF
5 AFC
those last 4 confederations don't work into 2 groups of 8 at all...so what does FIFA do?

That would have been amazing. He needed to take one left footed touch towards the middle of the box to get a better angle at that far post.

Jozy is playing very, very well right now. If Jan Vennegor of Hesselink is a better soccer player than him, jeesh.

Terrible yellow, you need to have a sense of the moment as an official. That basically ensures we see only about 45' out of Jozy tonight.

I love the pace Holden brings. He's got to be an attractive target for a Euro team, especially in Scotland, with his Scottish passport.
