World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

History says we lose in the group and win in the medal round.
History hold true, OK?

USA USA USA

It is pretty stupid how irrelevant pool play is to the tournament. But I guess in this specific case, I don't hate it.

Well... except for Norway and Germany, one of which won't be back next year. And it sets the matchups for the medal round. US really wanted this game to at least get to OT so they wouldn't have to worry about Sweden til Sunday. But, the short version is, if they want to win Gold again, they need to beat the best out there, so just buckle down and win 3 more.

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

So depending on the result in the Swiss v Finn game, USA plays Russia or Finland. If the Swiss hold on to win in regulation, USA gets Finland, if not, its Russia.

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

If Switzerland wins in regulation, we get Finland. Otherwise, we get Russia.

I don't mean it's completely irrelevant. All I mean is that if you finish 1st or 4th in your group of 5, you're still on pretty much equal footing going into the knockout stages.

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

The game certainly lived up to the hype with a lot of end-to-end rushes to open the game. USA applied good offensive pressure out of the gate. But Canada gradually gained the momentum in the second, got two quick goals and were noticeably the better team as the game went on. I thought the USA D did a poor job tonight getting sticks in lanes and clearing the man in front which led to both late Canada goals. The USA PP has been clicking at an amazing 58%, but tonight they looked a little out of sync and too much PK needed tonight from the Red, White and Blue. Fucale was out of his mind for Canada in nets tonight and made some stellar saves on Eichel and Barber to seal the win for Canada.

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

The USA left two Canadians open right in front, which cost them two goals. At the other end, USA had two breakaways, and didn't score on either one. Those four plays played a big part in determining which team won.

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

Finland goal called back for a crease violation, and Schweiz going to the PP at 57:00.

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

FIN 3 - 3 SUI after 60. They go to overtime.

USA will play Russia in the quarterfinals.

I rather see them add two teams to the tourney and have six team groups with the bottom two teams in each group put into the relegation round. I know we would see more blowouts but Germany did pick up a win this year.

Not sure I'd want to see another game in the round-robin though.

It wouldn't extend the tournament at all...just take out the day off...granted I'm not sure there are 12 teams that really deserve to be in the Top Division...
