World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

So if Canada should happen to lose this game, could we knock them out tomorrow?

I wondered that too, but according to the schedule, medal round has three rounds (8 teams), so no don't think so.

listening to Canadians whine is good entertainment. so I always hope they lose games.

Kind of like when the White Sox lose to the Twins.

There's a college hockey equivalent... ;)

I kid, I kid. We're all on the same side here.

Imagine Canada as a 4 seed in the medal round.

That'd be a tough outcome for whatever 1 seed drew them.

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

Situation if anyone cares:
If Slovakia beats Canada, then the US is the #1 in Group A no matter what happens tomorrow. If Canada comes back to win, then tomorrow's game is for the #1 in Group A. Canada would need to win in Regulation tomorrow to win the group.

1/4 Finals go: 1Av4B, 3Av2B. 1Bv4A, 3Bv2A. Therefore, if US ends up #1, and Canada ends up #3 in the group, there is the possibility of a semi-final rematch. That would require Slovakia winning today, then tomorrow SVK doing as well as CAN.

Group B: Complicated by the possibility of a 3-way tie. In case of Finland beating Switz, and Russia beating Sweden in regulation to make a 3-way tie, then:
If Russia wins by one goal: 1) Swe, 2) Fin, 3) Russ
by 2,3, or 4 goals: 1) Fin, 2) Russ, 3) Swe
by 5+ goals: 1) Russ, 2) Swe, 3) Fin

finland over russia isn't a huge upset, is it? i don't know much about their respective teams in this tourney, but on the surface it doesn't shock me.

Its most entertaining because if USA loses, it's disappointing to us, but most American hockey fans, let alone sports fans, don't know or care. If Canada loses, the whole country loses its minds and they take to the internet and yell at American fans and at each other.

Considering how strong Russia has been thus far, I would think so.

Wow, canada just scored but it was waved off because the guy who scored caught the puck and held it too long, then on the ensuing faceoff, canada brings it in the zone and scores to tie the game at 3-3 with 5:58 left.

Re: World Juniors Thread (Including Roster, Stats, Standings and Schedule)

OH HO HO! McDavid's would-be goal was called back, as they said he caught and carried it. Off the ensuing face-off out of the zone, Drouin scored anyway, so perhaps they won't lose their minds as much as I thought they would.

Canada has been controlling the action in the third.

Yup. It was their first good chance to score in a while, but the shooter just missed wide, hitting the post.
