I was at my local sports bar restaurant and the Providence Northeastern women’s game was airing on ESPNU. I’ve never seen women’s hockey on tv out in public before. Thought that was pretty neat. Is this a regular thing women’s hockey in ESPNU?

All HOME ECAC and HOME HE games, both men's and women's are on ESPN+. Plus if you miss a game or there are 2 or more games you would like to see that are on simultaneously then you can watch them on replay. IMHO the NC$$ Hockey coverage for these 2 leagues is well worth the cost you pay.

I watched the Northeastern-Providence game on ESPNU last night. It was nice to watch some women's college hockey outside of the weekends but is Northeastern's arena normally that empty for women's hockey?

According to the attendance figures, supposedly Northleastern averages 578 fans in a 4,700 seat areana... That would look empty if they actually had 578. Maybe they do get that but it's likely a bit of a padded number.

They must have been sitting on the side of the arena the camera is on out of it's field of vision. What I did see in it's view of the far side and the ends I could only see like six people not counting arena staff.

Ya that’s tough eh? Hockey already not the greatest tv sport and empty rinks don’t add any energy. My husband made the same observation about how empty it looked. I noticed pw ticket sales are going to try to group people together.

MAMA MIA. Another blunder by me. My post has been corrected. Thanks.

You are right tho that espn+ is well worth the money.

in the meantime I’ll keep an eye on ESPNU. They had a 6-8 Friday slot that said “tba” but it looks like it’s been filled with the NCAA women’s soccer tourney. Surely more woho to come.

There are a lot of Hockey East women's games on NESN as well, which is regional and on every cable package in New England but is also included in some national sports packs.

And yes, midwesterners who are used to sold out Ridders and LaBahns, 500 fans at a women's game out here is actually on the high end :(
