Women's DIII All-Americans

Re: Women's DIII All-Americans

...but I would think if she skated on the 3rd or 4th line at a school with a more competitive team, I would have expected her to end up better than "just average/above average".

But if she had skated on the 3rd or 4th line, on a more competitive team, wouldn't it have been that much more difficult for her to have been much better than average? Stats-wise, how many 3rd/4th line forwards are in the top 25 in terms of point production?

True, but stats-wise how many MSU players can get any point production when 90% of the game is played in their defensive zone? I hate to pick on MSU but their leading scorer averages about 1/2 a point per game. I would think if this player had been on the Wisco roster dressing every other game and getting limited ice time, the development she would get during practice would be significantly greater than skating a regular shift for a team where she might have the puck on her stick for 15-20 seconds each game.

If a player is a true D1 All-American, they can pretty much run the show with a bad team or a good team and make the other players around them better. Any player that is a DIII All-American would no way, no how be even close to being a D1 All-American. Those D1 AA's are all National team potential, National team bound. A DIII AA might be a decent player on a D1 team, but a decent player does not equal a game changer/program changer. Please name one player that was on a U18 National team/U22 National team from the US or Canada, that is a on a DIII roster and there's your answer.

Players do get overlooked. I'd say goaltending is the easiest position for it to happen. Plenty of examples of backup goalies in D1 going to D3 for playing time, and still remaining backup, and in some cases becoming the third stringer.

I don't recall anyone suggesting that a DIII AA should also be good enough to be AA at DI. I think his original theory was that he would have expected her to be somewhat better than average at DI. I merely suggested that it might be hard to classify a player as being average or otherwise when she plays on a team that spends so much time chasing the opponent.

Best post of the day. I also see the reverse, goalies who go to DIII that would have been solid at DI. There have been a number over recent years that were clearly good enough.
