Wisconsin womens' hockey: Off-season '10

Re: Wisconsin womens' hockey: Off-season '10

The Gopher Women's Hockey Examiner started his preview of Minnesota's WCHA opposition with Wisconsin.

Can't say I agree with one statement the writer makes: "The only problem with a good conference is that they beat up on each other all year. A lot of tough battles during the year may weaken teams by playoff time."

I would counter that playing in such a good conference actually better prepares the teams that qualify for the NCAA's by making them "battle tested". They get used to playing at a fast pace against quality opposition, which should give the team(s) that emerge an advantage when they reach the Frozen Four.

If I'm wrong I'd like to see a good example or two where this has not proven to have been the case.

Ok, the season can't be more than 6-7 weeks away and the UW hasn't yet released the schedule. Just looks like they get the leftovers at Kohl once men's hockey, men's and women's basketball schedules are set.

Any word on the captains or I have just completely missed that information? Seems Duggan, Knight and Deluce are the most logical, but maybe another senior gets in the mix.

Re: Wisconsin womens' hockey: Off-season '10

Its hard to believe that the season starts in about 5 weeks. Dont get me wrong, Im glad that hockey season is starting again but man, where did the summer go???

Re: Wisconsin womens' hockey: Off-season '10

Nice homestand to start the season. Hope their WCHA opponents can grab a couple points...;)

Yea. Glad to see only 2 - 2pm Friday games as well.

Oh and the only Home Fri-Sun series(s) are vs. UMD, vs. SCSU, and vs. UND...

Non-Conference Schedule is not too bad with home vs. RPI and @ RoMo, plus the Easton vs. Northeastern (cant remember playing them recently) and Mercyhurst (who has been ducking off our schedule for the past 5 years or so to avoid having to return a home and home).

Should be interesting..

Believe I heard captains will be selected during the first week or so of practice (but dont quote me on that).

Interesting schedule. I counted 7 "prime-time" games, which I consider a Friday or Saturday night and only two 2:00 Friday games (one of which is Thanksgiving weekend). That's as many night games (and as few weekday day games) as I can ever remember since they've moved to Kohl Center full-time. Credit to the athletic department, who I have called out in the past.

I don't think it's great to have that many home games early in the season. With Badger football and Packers looking to have pretty good seasons, there will be very little attention paid to the team (no matter how they perform) prior to the 2011 portion of the schedule.

With that said, I hope the crowd sizes continue to grow (band should be at all night games!) and I think this squad is going to give us something to cheer about.

I'm looking forward to a more "normal" season from Big Red. Though my allegiances lie with the Bulldogs, I hail from the land of cheese. And- I think Wisco's one of the classiest teams out there. Playing you is always a great game of skill, big heart, and lack of goon-ery.

Im glad to see theres less afternoon games too. Im hoping to go to quite a few of the ladies' games this year and it will be nice to not have to take off work in order to attend.
Hopefully things will get back to normal and the lady Badgers will be in the hunt for another NCAA championship. Last season was a hard one to take...

No real surprises with these choices. Duggan will make a great captain. Prough is an interesting choice (over fellow seniors Droenen and Nash), but seeing she won the 2009 Most Inspiring Player award it makes sense.

Looking forward to the start of the season. This team is going to be really good.

A bit off-topic here, but I got my season tickets in the mail on Saturday and I noticed that for section it says, "GE" and seat it says, "AD".
Soooo, does that just mean they are general admission and you sit where ever you want or what?
