Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2026-27

My daughter's not playing anymore. She wanted a big school, but wasn't D1 caliber. She decided she'd prefer to attend UW-Madison and not play, than attend one of the little D3 schools where she could have played. St Norbert's is one that draws a lot of kids from the TW program (I counted 7 on this year's roster). Mine just wasn't into that whole scene.

So now she's a fan like the rest of us, just one that knows some of the kids we discuss on here.

Still, I joke with Greeny that she's waiting for him to call...
It's neat that our state does have a plethora of options and opportunities. I did a 2 year associates degree at UW West Bend and was signed up to transfer to Madison, but I got cold feet over the how huge Madison is. I'm a small town guy, so I ended up at UW Whitewater; which I loved. It sounds like we have an emergency goalie on campus.

Megan Duggan is on the search committee for the new WI AD. She's a great choice to be part of that. Hopefully she can ensure the new AD has a true interest and desire not to treat women's athletics like an afterthought. MacIntosh was such a loser.

I'm wondering if there will be any interesting ticket/seating policy changes for the upcoming season. I survived losing my cherished seats, then I survived losing my new favorite seats to people who were somehow beating me to them every single game less the first 4 or 6 games. I honestly wish I could sit on 2 spots at one time, one on the glass and one up high.

Thanksgiving weekend is non conference at home vs Union.
Other Non Conference are Sept 25/26 at St. Lawrence and Oct 2/3 at home vs Boston University

I assume you're just giving 'weekends', instead of actual dates. But Oct 3rd is Homecoming, so likely no hockey that day (football vs Michigan State). And the Friday after Thanksgiving is a night football game in Camp Randall vs Minnesota. So, no hockey on Nov. 27.

I like to look at the flow of the schedule.

9/25-26 at St. Lawrence
10/2-3 BU
10/9-10 at TWSNBN
10/16-17 MSU
10/25-26 ------
10/30-31 at St. Cloud
11/6-7 ------
11/13-14 St. Thomas
11/20-21 BSU
11/27-28 Union
12/4-5 at UM
12/11-12 UMD

1/8-9 at St. Thomas
1/15-16 at MSU
1/22-23 St. Cloud
1/29-30 at BSU
2/5-6 UM
2/12-13 at UMD
2/19-20 TWHNBN

No real complaints. Opening on the road is a nice team bonding thing. They get 4 games in before playing at the dump. Not crazy about the week off before and after being at St. Cloud. Love the home games Thanksgiving weekend. I can see getting a bigger group together for 1 games if I can get tickets. Probably could have used 1 weekend off in late January or February. Pretty tough last 6 games but a great chance to close out the regular season title playing 4 at home with a young team that will be well seasoned by then. I think a trip to Duluth is in my future, one besides this summer as a layover on our way to Dryden Ontario in July. Is there an international tourney in 2027 where UW might lose a few players? The biggest question is do I bring my 3 yr old granddaughter to her first hockey game this season?

I think instead of "TWSNBN", you could just call them "The Future". Could be easier to type, etc.

Got a nugget from reading an article written by Dan Bauer about the location of the WIAA state hockey tourney. The article said that "Labahn currently does not have enough locker room space to host the tournament, but that could change". Why would that get written if the idea of locker room expansion has not been discussed at some level? You could not write that if it was purely conjecture on his part. Dan's been writing for WI Prep Hockey for a long time. The WIAA tourney will be held at the new barn at the Deforest Yards Legacy20 Arena through 2029. Could we see a Labahn expansion completed within the next 3 years?

Where are you going to expand LaBahn?

Bounded to the north by The Nick; bounded to the east by the Kohl Center and the Nicolas-Johnson practice building; bounded to the west by part of what's known as the East Campus Mall; bounded to the south by access to the KC "loading dock", the city's bike path, and then relatively newly built hotel, etc to the south of the bike path.

The KC was just recently 'expanded' to add student-athlete service stuff, like "academics, a student-athlete hub, sports nutrition, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, and administrative functions", built over the top of the loading dock to the southwest of what one would normally think of 'the Kohl Center'; if locker rooms were going to be part of that, they'd already be done, and available.

The only space conceivable is to the west, 'interrupting' East Campus Mall. And it may sound silly that that would be an issue, but 20-25 years ago, UW went to great lengths to create the East Campus Mall, with the idea being a north-south mall as a complement to the east-west 'mall' that is State Street and the Library Mall; a pedestrian walkway that stretches from the south edge of 'campus' to the Union and the lake. In creating the mall, they tore down at least two buildings; the old Ogg Residence towers, and a smaller administration building (if it had a 'name', I don't remember it). So, it would be a bigger deal than one might otherwise think to reverse the thinking on East Campus Mall.

That means going 'up', or going 'down'. Both really expensive options.

I'm highly skeptical.

Anybody know what locker rooms Edgewood and their opponents used, back when LaBahn was their home ice?

How things play out in DeForest should be entertaining. That arena was half finished when it opened in September, and remained mostly that way all hockey season. Can't wait to see what it looks like come the opening of the USHL season. To say I'm skeptical that it will resemble the renderings would be an understatement.

If you are just talking locker rooms, they can go below grade on the NE side of the building. I think that would be easy and rather inexpensive since there are no fancy architectural above grade things to do. On that side the rink and seating are actually below grade already. The ship of increased seating sailed along time ago. It's probably a nothingburger but it's fun to excercise the mind in this way.

That seems to be what a lot of people are thinking. The renderings look pretty nice, it would put that rink in Ohio to shame.
