Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

MJ Presser......no questions on Edwards was playing D. That was a super legit question that was not asked. The US was seconds away from the silver due to a bad backcheck effort. I sure as heck hopes UW can survive playing with fire too.

He was essentially happy game 2 went into OT, the players got a chance to deal with an unexpected situation, so a very usable teachable moment.
She misplayed the puck off the boards. It never should have gotten out of the offensive zone in the first place.

Well, Timmay.......I'm not a flat earther or a grassy knoll type person, but I have a theory on on this.....MJ gets the word out to the scribes on what questions he won't answer prior to the presser, that that one is on the top of the list. If you call yourself a legit scribe, that question had to be asked, especially with his comment early in the season about it.

It seems to me she is calling the shot, not him. Maybe she feels her future in the PWHL is at D, but that tells me as a F she has little confidence in her ability to make a PWHL roster as a F (which is totally absurd). How else can we explain this? I sure hope she's a F from here on out. She needs to gel with her line mates before the elimination game next weekend.

I can't imagine she's calling the shots. No way they'd allow that.

And she'll make a PWHL roster coz she has rare scoring ability. That team will decide where she will play.

KK is possibly the best player in the world as evidenced by her Olympic performance. I realize other things go into the Patty Kaz, but don't see how it's close on any level.

Others to make the top 3 should be Dunne, Murphy or Eden.

Imho and all that.

Am I missing someone from out east?

Maybe Janecke. But, yeah, Dunne and Murphy,

(Murphy would not make my list, but we've covered that.)

We have, we hope, five more games to play this year. Last year, we fell behind in every one of those last five games. It's a great thing that they were able to come back from those deficits.

But can we not fall behind today?

I just did a frame by frame on the incident and I would agree upon further review it was indeed Potter who should get the tripping penalty.
Potter and McNaughton have history that goes back at least as far as their U14 team in western Pennsylvania. Don't know if the history is good, bad, or somewhere in between. Not saying the trip was intentional but the subconscious is a sneaky thing.

I agree on both, but MJ is smart enough to know they need her at F more than D. Scoring is a premium in elimination games and so is playing squeaky tight D.

She is listed as D today.

Are there reasons to dislike Abbey Murphy besides the obvious? Her defense of the US men's team was promoted by Faux News. Murdoch does everything for a reason.

She has led the WCHA in total penalty minutes for the last three years; one year she doubled the minutes of the second -most penalized players. This year she's just behind the leader in minutes, but leads in number of penalties taken.

If part of the award is 'character" etc, I don't think the most penalized player should get the award.

What you describe reflects more than her view of what happens on the ice. It reflects getting away with whatever you can regardless of the rules and norms.

Her head shot on Harvey last year was so far out of bounds and over the line - that will always be a stain on her even if you can somehow look past the penalty minutes and routine acting jobs when she gets hit.

Could have seriously hurt Harvey and could have cost UW the Natty if she wouldn't have been able to return.

I respect her talent. I don't respect her game.

I don't respect her as a person. I don't care how good an athlete she is. If she were not maneuvering inside a flawed system, she would not have approached anything close to the stature she has.

On the radio pregame, Mark Johnson and interviewer Paul Braun were talking about 'crazy things' they had never seen before (last week, two disallowed goal in 17 seconds) and Johnson mentioned this goal that he grand-nephew (?) scored during the MN high school tournament this week. At about 35 seconds into the highlights of the game. It is indeed crazy.

The refs rewarded Murphy for a dive in the Ohio State game just now. She dives constantly. She has to have been practicing it for years.

Some all over the place observations from attending today...

Watched from higher up and the kiddo chose that instead of usual on the glass, forgoing his usual amazing luck at getting a game puck...but you could buy them so that worked out for him anyway.

Were lucky to not give one up in the first 2:30 of the game. Twice a Mav was all alone right in front but ended up not getting a stick on passes that just didn't quite connect.

Not surprising anymore, but Simms had some ridiculous puck handling almost every shift.

We might sometimes criticize Gorbatenko's ice vision, but man is that young lady just absolutely relentless. Constantly after the puck and so often winning it. She might not provide the prettiest part of a lot of goals, but she does play a part in a lot of them by maintaining consistent pressure in the zone.

Charlotte P. is showing signs of a similar game to Kelly's. I think she is a candidate for a breakout sophomore year next season...once she lights the lamp a few times I think she could take off. She's in the right spots.

The second Mavs goal should never have ended up being a scoring chance. Defenders needed to get a stick on that puck way before that. Too much backpedaling and not aggressive enough. Unfortunately one of the defenders on that one was Laila. Overall, thought she mostly did fine, but like most of you really would rather see her at forward to close out her terrific college career.

A great thing about postseason college hockey is having both pep bands there. Badger band did all the classics, MSU mixed on some more recent pop hits. Well done to both.

In addition to not liking the Gophers getting home ice every year for the WCHA tourney...I actually like pretty much everything about the new St. Thomas arena better than Ridder: sightlines, sound, seats, scoreboard.

Legend of KK continues to grow. A sweet finish to start the scoring, a couple more assists...and then the closing action. Didn't see what happened but she was shaken up down in our corner with about 5 mins left. Skated off very slowly. Guessing a stick came up high and might have gotten under her mask? Well, either way she knew who it was and took note of it.

We were watching the bench and were relieved to see her put her helmet back on and come back out for a shift a few mins later. Puck drops, she skated straight over and lights the Maverick player up. Figured it was worth a penalty at that point, but the ref just looked at it and apparently said "**** it, I'm not calling anything." 😂

Kind of hoping they find the whistles for Saturday. It was a pretty clean game today, bit there were zero penalties called and a few trips that seemed like they could have generated some power plays. The kind of game where Murph might have avoided about 12 minutes of deserved box time.

There are other sports where SWSNBN can score points by diving. Maybe SWSNBN should pursue a professional career in Acapulco instead of the PWHL. Good riddance.
