Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

I know this is not the team USA page (or is it) but what do the D options for team USA look like? Do they need a right handed d that can score on the point in addition to KK?

Great theatre for the pre Olympic run up. The sports shows should quit talking about Notre Dame and debate where Laila should play.

Rivalry series game tonight apparently? Time flies.

I finally watched the entire 6-1 game. Let's just say that there are lots of teachable moments that will arise off that tape. Ava stood on her head, as they say.
IMHO, the game hinged on the play where there was a a 50/50 just outside the TWSNBN's blueline early in the 2nd period. The D could have sprinted forward/dove and at least chipped it away from her blueline, but she decided to back off and let Edwards get the puck. It was in their net seconds later. 3-0 was a deficit that was not going to be over-come that day.

There are two other RHD in the pool. Cayla Barnes and Haley Winn. Barnes is an established regular, Winn will almost certainly make the Olympic team and has been good as a pro so far but I don't think Wroblewski really trusts her for those big minutes yet. And it should be mentioned that Winn at 5'5" is the taller of the two. Edwards at least I've seen play D in overtime of a IIHF Worlds gold medal game.

The other seven D with a crack at the roster shoot left.

Compare that to right wing depth: Knight, Murphy, Zumwinkle, Simms, Eden, Compher, at least one of whom won't make the final roster.

Defense is a tad bit more than having a good shot from the point.

That said, I honestly don't care what Team USA does. I'd like them to win gold, but I'm nowhere near as invested in that as I am with what Wisconsin does.

Looks like Johnson has a handle on this situation and will do the right thing when they get back from the Olympics.

I want UW to take their best shot at a title and let the chips fall where they do and that is with her at F.

It is the only sensical, logical and smart decision …. SHE IS NOT A DEFENDER !!!

Let's chat about the Fr class's first half who have suited up.

Sappy has 8g 10a in 18 games centering the 1/2 line, depending on how MJ matches lines. She's not as flashy in the style of Simms as I had hoped, but she's got a lot of responsibility playing against the sharp ends of the opponents pencils and she's only a Fr. Faceoff % was in the low 50's, which again is tolerable considering who's across the circle from her.

Pieckenhagen does play a heavy game and MJ has used her up the line-up on occasion. She fits right in anywhere and has played in 19 games and is noticeable. I'm very interested to see how she does with the Olympians gone, getting more ice time and responsibility. She has the makings of a top 6 F.

Jones was not getting a lot of icetime early on though she has suited up for 18 games. Injuries forced her into the D rotation. She was shaky at times early on, but has really rounded out into a steady D. Love those MN HS D that they bring in. They never fail to fit in.

Stewart got the 1 start and has got some 3rd period action. We will learn a ton about her in 2026. I'm excited to see her play in meaningful games. There's always high expectations for goalies at UW. She will play against St. Cloud, Kato, TWSNBN, the rodents and maybe BSU. A tough schedule, though some may be depleted.
