Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

You know, given the dairy scene on campus, someone with a name like "Babcock" would be a great fit. I bring this up because I think I remember hearing abou some coach, Matt or Mike or something, with that surname. Is he any good? I figure he'd love it here, considering his last name is all over cheese and premium ice cream.

You may be right, and Almington as well, my pessimism is in full on rage mode right now.

Don't get me wrong, while there are some good quality players, the sum of parts on that rosters is just terrible.

That's the issue, Eaves lands 2 or 3 of the top forwards every season, but they only stay for 2 or 3 seasons, which means you have 4 or 5 of them at any one time, when the other 10 forwards are interchangeable replacement level parts the team is going to struggle.

The elite players are easy to find, the real talent in scouting is finding the hidden gems and late bloomers. To be successful you either have to be able to close the deal with the top players or have an eye for talent.

When the staff has neither, you have 4 win seasons, when you have both you can build a dynasty.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Tyler Inamoto was selected in the 6th round of the OHL Draft today by Kitchener. Not outstanding news.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Not a surprise. Kitchener will now throw the kitchen sink at him to get him to sign. It's what they do.

Had a bad feeling one of the big money teams was going to end up taking him today. Badgers are still the favorite, but Eaves and the future staff needs to continue to recruit him like he's uncommitted. I'd say it's 65/35 he ends up in Madison. Good news is he's committed to the NTDP. That clears a big hurdle, but there's a lot of work left.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Brock Boeser officially signed with North Dakota today. Would have been interesting if Eaves hired his cousin before he signed that NLI... I guess we'll never know.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

5 out of the top 20 AJHL scorers are not committed yet, and 2 of the top 20 on the BCHL are not committed. He could poach the #2 BCHL scorer who is committed to Union.

Point totals in those leagues need to be taken with a serious grain of salt.

I agree, but it gives you a little idea of who can handle the puck, and UW's Canadian lads have come out of these leagues. The uncommitted big point guys at this point tend to be on the thin side and either are "really" young @ 17 or old @ 20. I suppose the big question is are any of these guys worth a full offer? UW does have money to burn and depth to fill, what other options are there?

You can't just burn money to fill a roster spot with a kid that will be marginal (cause you might be stuck with an unproductive player 4 years). If a kid in the AJHL or BCHL is a late bloomer and can be a productive college player....sure go for it...but they likely would have an offer for next year if not this. I would rather spend the money convincing Jones, Tkachuk, and Matthews that they can be part of a huge turn around that would make them legendary and to forgo the CHL. Otherwise, I would focus on kids that haven't signed a LOI be it they are committed to an Ivy League team or that they just haven't gotten around to it this signing period. Last, they may be better served finding a Wiercioch....namely someone that another school has deferred to the following year because of excessive depth in front of them. If you are going to bargain bin dumpster dive for warm bodies, I would rather it be a collection of partial guys from the USHL the Canadian kids that generally require a bigger financial commitment of scholarship percentage.

Eaves needs to let Jones, Tkachuk and Matthews know that the mission this year is to land on the moon.

right on the money.

for the love of god please do not bring in bodies just to fill roster spots...that's *part* of what got Eaves into this mess in the first place. that and I think he's not fond of dealing with the more high-end players personalities/selfishness etc...well too bad, that's what coaching is about. Calipari never complains does he?

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Unless they put up like 93 points in the USHL. Oh, wait...

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Eaves is going to BC and stopping in rodentsota on a recruiting trip. Baggot thought Fabbro and Jost were still in the mix, hence the trip to BC.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

I'd be absolutely shocked if any of Matthews, Fabbro or Jost end up in Madison.

This is beginning to feel like the recruiting post 1992 NCAA meltdown. Coaches everywhere can point to Eaves' failures, rigid personality and on and on. It doesn't seem like a very enticing or fun atmosphere to walk into.

I hear ya. The only difference is Eaves has a bunch of former players in the NHL.
