As Gurt has already aluded to, Andringa's kid is probably not going to be a Badger.

As for the Pelton-Byce thing...The Badgers are pretty tight on space for forwards down the roard. They don't need to take a chance on a kid like that at this point, who is pretty good, but not elite. I've already talked about kids like Trent Frederic who they have ranked higher on the board. There's a few other bluechip 98's that fit that same billing who they'd love to give first priority to come for 2016. That's not even considering the 97's they may have ranked higher than Pelton-Byce.

As I've said before, I like his game a lot. As I do with kids like McCormick, Baker and Conley. But there is a lot of talent out there, and not everyone is a fit for what the staff wants...we saw that with Tyler Sheehy. And I think the staff owes it to the fans to recruit the best players for the spots available instead of grabbing a kid because he's from the state or is a legacy recruit.

This. Don't care who your pops is. Can you play at a high level?

Of course it's a bonus if it's a legacy kid, but that's all... a bonus.

I'd have liked Heatley the same either way.

I thought this article did a nice job laying out all the early losses the Badgers have had to overcome. Those early departures right before the season starts have ripple effects for four years as you had to replace a stud with a guy who will never be at that caliber. I think the next class coming in could be very good in time. I also wonder if Eaves and company are considering transfers and/or walk on types for the last few forward spots (more if early departures) to try to get classes back in balance. A transfer would be gone in less than four years and you could basically bank scholarship money not spent on a walk on and recruit another high-end forward in a different class (although it may leave you shorter on talent in the year or years between).

Need 1 for sure. Could be up to 3 depending on departures and what they decided to do with Cameron Hughes. Although departures and Hughes' situation may go hand in hand. The Hartzog thing was just an idea that was kicked around by people here, I don't know if it was ever seriously considered.

OHL draft going on right now. Alex Semandel (Waunakee) was just picked in the 8th round. He plays for the Chicago Mission and is the son of a former Badger.

Trent Frederic from St. Louis went in the 6th round to Niagara, he's bound for the NTDP next season. Frederic visited Wisconsin during the Minnesota series.

Two other big-time U.S. kids that went early to keep an eye on Nick Pastujov (Saginaw, 4th round) and Max Jones (London, 1st round). Both play for Honeybaked and are headed to the NTDP next season.

I would love to see McTavish be the guy they target up front. Kid turns 20 in November which when you are replacing a dozen departing players will give you a little maturity. I would also suspect you'll see Hughes come in which I am all for. Letting him percolate in the BCHL in the end probably doesn't change when he early departs from Madison. I would rather have him adapt even a little slowly next season and have some of the growing pains worked out for the next season or two, He is not a kid that will be in Madison 4 years, so why not take him in early. Hughes has an interesting teammate Parker MacKay who is a point a game guy and will turn 20 this Summer.

Agree, there are not many other guys worthy of anything close to a significant ride at this point (maybe McTavish). Hughes is a kid you need to show up in the fall. Again, unless something really bizarre happens, he is very unlikely to be at UW for 4 years. He's probably a guy that leaves as a sophomore if he stays in JR this fall. You might as well let him get acclimated to college hockey (even if he struggles early on) and try to get 2 and a half years out of him).

15-16 looks about the same, with less unknown. Malone and the MN kids will probably step right in fine.

I came across MacKay as well. Another 19 yr old is Conner Wilson, he has 57 pts in 60 games. He seems to maybe be cutfrom the Zengerlee/Rockwood cloth as he has 14 goals and 43 assists. Some other 20 or 21 yr olds who are AJHL a pts a game guy who are uncommitted are Jetlan Houcher (love the name), Colton Vannucci, Conner Collett and Jamie King. A highest scoring BCHL guys who are left are Deigo Cuglietta (18), Brendan Taylor (19) Kurt Keats (18). The BCHL guys seem t o have more weight on their frames than the AJHL guys. There certainly looks like there are still some options out there north of the border.

What scares the crap out of me is the D roster grid with only 3 experienced D returning. Dougherty, Ford and Linhart are all going to see serious icetime, with Tim Davison also essentially being a freshman as far as experience goes. Upon seeing the D chart, my enthusiasm for next year is very tempered, I was so transfixed on the F's up until this point. Maybe they can find a 19-20 yr old D out of Canada. Braden Pairs (20) and Jason Bird (20) are the first uncommitted D in the BCHL. They are the 13th and 14th best D points wise who are available. The AJHL will have to wait til another night.

Dougherty and Linhart won't look like freshmen. Davison and Ford will compete for 6th D spot, edge to Davison.

All the Canadians mentioned seem good. But, the BCHLs stats are a little scewed. We are going to have enough big bodies next year (LaBate, Soleway, Ustaski) I would like to see some speed guys. I don't have the knowledge to know if any of the players mentioned fit that profile.

Not as concerned about the D. Berkovitz and Tische are both '96's and could be options for this fall. There seem to be some USHL guys that could plug in well. Vanko from Oregon, Wi is a '94 and has 29 points for Chicago (and his listed size of 6'1 179 seems solid). Privitera plays with the Ford brothers and Semus Malone at Dubuque, is a '93, and is 2nd in USHL in dman scoring with 44 points. There a Swede named Brun at Sioux Falls that is 6'3 190, a '94, who is a respectable +13.
