Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

The Vees tweeted that the early college entry rumors were false.

Interesting. Well, the tweet is not accurate. It's very much an option. Both players have taken extra coursework in an effort to have the option of graduating early. Nothing is even close to being decided, but it's an option they are certainly considering.

Here's what Penticton tweeted for those following along:

I suppose it could be deemed accurate in the sense that there aren't any specific plans to go NCAA at the moment, since they aren't committed anywhere and have coursework to complete. Penticton needs to sell those renewals, you know.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Eaves still needs two forwards for next season. If I were him I'd be working on Dartmouth commit Will Johnson (Madison Capitols). Was on pace for a 72-point USHL season before hurting his knee half-way through the season. He's expected to come back to the Caps next season.

98-born Trenton Bliss has committed to Wisconsin. Senior-to-be at Appleton United this season.

How should be feel about this fellow? 50 pt guy in the ushl in his 2nd year?

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

If he's a '16 projected to arrive in '18, I'd think there is a lot of unknown.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

It's not that early if he just finished his junior year. They must see something, and if he has a hell of a year in 2016-17, I'm sure they'd find a way to bring him in.

I fixed your post, we only have 1 coach right now if you didn't know that already. ;)

Or maybe you know about his multiple personality disorder, but that's supposed to be a secret. You can't trust anyone these days. Are you from TMZ or what, coming in here and stirring things up. Geez. Give the guy a little privacy, you scum sucking paparazzi.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

Which makes me wonder if he's not a potential top end guy, why offer so early?

I'll admit, I have some concerns about the timing of the offer as well. I'm a bit gun-shy on offering in-state kids that aren't super high-end while they are still in high school. I'm probably too critical on this, but I don't love making this offer when I highly doubt he comes in before 2018 with the kids lined up in front of him. That means he likely has three full seasons left before he'll ever hit campus. I would have liked to see them wait until he at least goes through the HS Elite League with Team Wisconsin in the fall.

I don't see Bliss as a kid that can make a USHL roster next season. At least not make a USHL team and make an impact. Should Wisconsin be in the business of offering a guy like that right now, three years in advance? I don't know. The longer the time between the offer and the player hitting campus, the more risk there is. It's kind of the same concern I had when they offered Joey Abate last year. He's a third-line type winger that isn't going to be a big scorer in college. Why are they offering him a full-ride 3+ years in advance of him coming to campus? They can find a comparable player to play the role Abate will play in college the fall before he needs to come to campus. Why not get that role out of an experienced guy in the USHL where you know what you're getting instead of grabbing him out of midget minor? It doesn't make sense to me.

With that said, I'm sure Bliss had offers from other schools but really, really wanted to be a Badger. I'm almost certain he took a Wisconsin-friendly scholarship offer. And don't get me wrong, the kid can play. He had a huge camp last year against the best players in the country at the US Select 16 festival in NY when he had 4 goals and 6 points in 6 games. He's a skilled player that can put up some points. I hope it works out, I really do. But I wish Wisconsin protected themselves a bit more instead of worrying about letting players get out of state.

Sure sounds like Eaves as changed his recruiting tactics...good grief another 3rd liner, cause, ya know? Grinders win championships...I don't know why I read about Wisconsin hockey anymore

He sounds better than I was hoping for, so that's a good thing. The question is have is why offer him now? Why not wait to get your staff in place, have them look at him, then make a move (or not)? I can't believe MM had to offer him right now, or he was going elsewhere.

I totally agree that one can wait on 3rd/4th line guys til way later in the signing window. UW's problem is too many grinders and not enough high octane guys. From this signing it looks like MM's recruiting philosophy is still the same (unfortunately), unless MM believes Bliss is a high octane guy. I hope the young Mr. Bliss is the next Pavs.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

You would think filling the roster for THIS year and getting 2 assistant coaches would be a higher priority, but based on the way he is running the program (hint into the ground), I am not surprised.

I meant Abate will play the role of a 3rd line-type guy. Bliss has more offensive upside than that, at least from what I've seen so far. I apologize for the confusion.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXX: 1 All American at a Time

I probably mcread your post... Can we nominate you for HC? You'd have the recruiting down cold

Emotions are high.

Coming off a 4 win season.
Currently no asst coaches.
Need at least 2 F recruits for the upcoming year.

....lost my train of thought, in the middle to this my dog just took out some baby birds...some very ****ed off birds in the yard.

Im sure that On of the areas that Eaves is feeling heat is from fact that many WI born players are doing well at schools other than UW. Better to swing early at UW players and end up with 3rd/4th liner than wait and have them end-up elsewhere.
