I agree to an extent, but like I said before, Cedar Rapids dropped him before knowing for sure from UW.

Brock Boeser scores for the USA U17's today at the five nations tournament. He was also named player of the game. Gophers' recruit Tom Novak (River Falls) also scored. They are playing on the same line together. Verona's Tarek Baker, who Wisconsin is recruiting, is also on the squad.

Now we need some anti-Knights slogans for next year! I assume something of this size would be confiscated faster than the speed of light in a vacuum, though.

is this a surprise to the coaching staff? This seems like a pretty big blow considering there aren't too many blue chips in the UW commit queue for forwards.

Never great to have a recruit drafted by the Knights in OHL draft. They are very aggressive, plus they have 5 first round NHL picks and 2 second round picks currently on their roster. It also helps to know that the Knights are hosting the Memorial Cup next year. That tournament is huge and every scout will be there. There was a lot stacked against UW.

On the topic of Dvorak, he is an OHL draft pick of the team awarded to host the 2014 Memorial Cup, the London Knights. With London's history of luring kids with college roots, any word if there is interest on either side given the strong Memorial Cup selling point?

Summers last a long time to lure prospects to a CHL squad, especially one hosting the Memorial Cup.

man, I may take some flack for this but here goes

"The Wisconsin State Journal's Andy Baggot spoke with Dvorak's father, who felt signing with London improved his son's chances of reaching the NHL."

that statement by Dvorak's father is quite possibly the most ignorant statement I've read in a long time with regard to CHL vs. NCAA (UW). I mean, really?

Gardiner, McDonagh, Stepan, Schultz, Pavelski, Elliott, Drewiske, Burish, Heatley, Rafalski, and zillions of others I mean you know the drill. Something like 22 UW alums in the NHL last year so how do you say UW would take a back seat to anyone in terms of preparing kids for the NHL? That's just bull****.

were grades an issue?

as far as the future for UW, man they've been pretty **** quiet on the recruiting front, I have no idea what that means but coming on the heels of the last 3-4 seasons to have this happen this is unquestionably disturbing

I don't think you'll catch much flack for saying that on this site. I have to agree with you. It sounds like something a lot of casual Canadian hockey fans like to say. I'm talking about the kind who say that 90% of the NHL is Canadian and pretty much everyone is either from Europe or played in the CHL. Unlike their more knowledgeable counterparts, they don't know that that idea is stuck in the time of Red Berenson or Ken Dryden.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and $ay doubtful. You have to admit, London is a pretty easy sell in this situation. The roster is insane and their attendance is great.

London seems to be a little different than the rest of the CHL.

Is their attendance greater than UW's?

NHL scouts regularly come to Madison so what's the big lure for London? I mean, every scout in the world came to Madison for Schultz, for Brendan Smith for Dany Heatley et al. I don't "get it".

EDIT: ...now a certain cretin poster from the West may get a woody for me saying this but...I think the Minnesota model for HS is the best we've got in USA and I'd love nothing more than for other states to adopt as best they can similar models as I'm not seeing (at least as of now) how the CHL offers more than the NCAA

1. Almost. Full arena, best attendance in the league. Much better than USHL where he'd be this year.
2. Schultz and Smith were drafted before college. Heatley was drafted 13 years ago. London has five first rounders and three second rounders in the last three years.
3. We're lucky in MN because kids want to play HS, then if they're good enough they can come straight in. I do feel like there's a more noticeable buzz about the CHL both in HS and college hockey this summer.

re: #3...uh oh. NCAA and their coaches have their work cut-out for them. Here's where guys like Chelios, Granato, and many many more can positively help (I think) if USA Hockey can employ them to push NCAA hockey where and when they can.

it's weird this is happening when the NCAA has never been represented better than in the NHL than over the past decade. Although, the last 2-3 years the draft has certainly swung back to the CHL more in terms of the 1st 2 rounds
