Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Could someone give me a quick rundown on what Crandall's "situation" was?

His play digressed to the point where after delaying his coming to UW in hopes of him playing better the plug was pulled. It might be better just to bring Grunwald in now so he has additional time to be developed. Or pull the plug.

Overall Eaves has kind of whiffed on goalies. Elliot was an emergency signee after Broduer blew his eligibility (Broduer ended up being ho hum), he got lucky there; Goody was solid but not great, (he's not playing hockey anymore); Cons was good but not great; Rumpel seems to be nearing greatness; Petersen was a puzzling signee but appears to be solid, Crandall and Grunwald are whiffs. Not goaltender U type of players. Did I miss any?

Ohio State recruits Tyler Sheehy had Jack Dougherty have officially decommitted.

Just keeps getting worse over there, doesn't it?

I don't like it. We need a strong OSU to help make the BTHC look better for RPI/PairWise reasons. Not sure how much I like our ability to get at large bids if we fall short in a conference that can't perform well in OOC play against strong teams.

Wouldn't be surprised to see both kids end up at Big Ten schools.

Contact @DUCoachMonty to see if he would take Grunwald off your hands.;)

I'll admit I love trolling this thread (I try not to that much), but I warned about the 2014 forward class three months ago and the panic has just officially sunk in it seems. Sheehy straight to college after next year?

P.S. In terms of the other Gopher fan that usually trolls these threads... I never understood why anyone followed the Twitter account that just retweeted all the credible sources all day long. Why not just follow them? Not surprising how that one turned out. Anyway... lol

If you don't think people who follow UW have been concerned, you're not paying attention.

That concern escalated today, obviously.

What happened today that escalated the general concern?

I'm out of town and haven't heard anything...

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

I like to follow which Wisconsin natives might end up making their way to UW, and that potential source of forward recruits is really thin too at this point. The only Wisconsin natives that played forward in the USHL last season and are not committed are Kyle Schmidt (Sioux City), Austin Vieth (Waterloo) and Drew Callin (Des Moines) as far as I can tell. Also, Wisconsin's Senior class last year was the weakest it's been in my memory, so there's probably not any forwards that are going to jump to the USHL this year and be ready to play for UW in a year. Not sure about any incoming Wisconsin high school Seniors making the jump early to the USHL at this point that might be options.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

There was good news on the recruiting front this week, though, as Ryan Wagner made the U.S. U-18 team for the Ivan Hlinka tournament. Earned rave reviews for his performance at Select 17's last week.

Just stumbled onto this clip of Ryan Wagner training...

Stock continues to rise for Ryan Wagner. Was offered a spot on the USA NTDP U18 team for next season, and told me that he has accepted it. That could potentially accelerate his timeline to Madison from 2015 to 2014. Given the concerns about the '14 forward class, this is a positive development.
