Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Did I ever say any school is obligated to do anything?

Twist words much?

That was the implication.

And I doubt it effects Wisconsin's recruiting efforts. They're still in the Big 10, they still play Minnesota twice a year, and they still have a great academic school with a wonderful campus atmosphere. The WCHA will be a tier 2 league before long and be at the level of Atlantic Hockey and the ECAC for competitiveness. That's not to say they won't be able to compete. Much like Yale did this year if you can keep a good class together for 4 years anything is possible.

But, IMO, to say that Wisconsin's recruiting efforts will be affected because they're not scheduling Bemidji or Mankato is folly. And UMD and SCSU certainly don't need the help in the league they're in. So, what exactly is your point? Cause there isn't really one to be had here except just another excuse for you to wave your Minnesota flag where it doesn't need to be waved.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

That said, the comment of yours that I originally replied to seemed to suggest that you'd prefer to never see UW play Mankato or Bemidji State again.

Or SCSU or UNO for that fact. There's just no juice with those match-ups. I think maintaining ties with old school WCHA teams is important.

As far as recruiting goes, when Eaves/Walsh/Schuchuck show up at a rodent hs rink, the kid they are there to see will know who UW is, and what UW is all about. They watch the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they'll notice UW has produced more productive NHL players than any other school. Craig Smith was the 3rd leading scorer in the IIHF this last month. UW doesn't need to pay in Mankato to make that point.

If your plan is to lean on having produced THE most NHL talent of any school, I hope for your sake your program can maintain that. I have my serious doubts.

I don't think I ever suggested UW will have no strengths to draw upon in recruiting in Minnesota. Nor have I said they will never successfully recruit a MN kid ever again.

But they are using those strengths (facilities, brand recognition, NHL talent, etc..) now. My point is that UW's capacity to recruit in Minnesota will decline (not vanish) as a result of these scheduling changes. Unless UW is going to draw upon some new strengths it hasn't utilized before, I can't see how anyone can argue against this point.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

No, it wasn't the implication. I didn't even read the rest.

First, yes you did read the rest.

Second, you certainly implied that UW owed it to those small schools.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

Awesome name to the new thread and we get 4 pages of utter gibberish from these 2 (mostly 1) trolls. Since most of the posts in this thread are from one one troll, I assume he is attempting to taint this thread in hopes it might affect our recruiting, or hopelessly trying to get us riled up.

So please quit responding to him as we know he has to have the last word....

Just my $.02.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

You know what would be awesome? If this thread was used to talk about Wisconsin recruiting. You know, hence the reason for the thread's creation.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

But we're going to lose recruiting battles in Minnesota if we don't play a dozen games a year across the St Croix!!!!!!!!!!OMGLOLERZ!!!!!

Well, you haven't been able to give me an intelligent reason why (with everything else staying the same) playing 10+ less games against Minnesota schools and at least 4 less games within the state of Minnesota won't diminish UW's capacity to recruit in Minnesota.

And Chuck, I believe this discussion is Wisconsin recruiting related.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting Vol. XXVI: Make him an offer he can't refuse

I don't think anyone has suggested UW be run as a non-profit. I don't think anyone would even reasonably expect UW to give up home games to schedule these schools.

That said, the comment of yours that I originally replied to seemed to suggest that you'd prefer to never see UW play Mankato or Bemidji State again.

Sounds to me like you are upset Mankato and Bemidji were given a home in the WCHA, would have preferred to never have had to play them, and don't want to see them on UW's schedule now.

Is that interpretation incorrect? And why are none of the smaller former WCHA schools on your schedule for next year? What are Eaves plans to schedule them?

If I never see Bemidji or Omaha in the Kohl Center again...fine by me. I sure as hell don't want to see them at the expense of North Dakota and Denver which is exactly what happened the only 2 seasons of the bloated new WCHA which was nothing like the old. Last season we did not get a home game against either Denver or North Dakota which is not acceptable and a part of the attendance issue last season for sure. Next year we won't either, but I'll gladly take Michigan & Michigan State over Bemidji in a transitional year with both Denver and North Dakota looming in future years along with BC & BU. Maybe we should just throw all the ECAC & AHA teams with all the WCHA schools and play 40 conference games against middling to worse teams in the college hockey universe and never play anyone good for the "good" of hockey?

Maybe you should ask Eaves instead of trolling a Badger recruiting thread is you really care about future Badger scheduling intentions?

LOL if you think your attendance issues were the result of not seeing UND or DU as much in your barn.

And instead, maybe just offer a small program or two a 1:1 deal every 4 years or so. But you bring up a good point, with the declining interest in hockey at UW, your administration is probably trying to squeeze every penny it can out of your program.

Which "small program" is Minnesota giving a 1:1 deal to?

They're helping all of them with revenue yearly. More than you can say that UW is doing for anyone. But considering recent attendance, perhaps UW needs all those pennies to keep their program going? Wouldn't want to see UW hockey disappear for another 30 years now, would we? ;)
