Wisconsin Recruiting: Filling the foundation with 5 stars

His numbers are not very good, but he'll be scoring like 17 pts by his sr. year. :o

But that will be showing improvement over the 5 points he had as a Fr so it's all ok.

6 or 7 grinders on a roster of 15 forwards isn't a problem, 9 or 10 is. Who knows, Eaves has gotten the most our of guys with prototypical NHL size, maybe this will be the Elliott type home run on an unheralded guy out of Canada.

Soleway's numbers aren't off the charts, but he was playing for the worst team in his division so it's not like they were stacked on talent. In four games since his trade to Penticton he's recorded five points. We'll see where this goes.

Updated my story after talking with Penticton radio guy Fraser Rodgers today.

He gives a pretty good description of his game.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting: Filling the foundation with 5 stars

I think everyone can agree with this statement.

I'd go a step further. 4-5 grinders tops on a great team. 3 on the 4th line, 2 on the 3rd line or one each on the 2nd and 3rd line if you must. the other 7 guys need to be snipers, playmakers and GOOD secondary scorers (20-25 points per season). 2006 I'd argue there were only 4 grinders on that team

FYI, Grant Besse's game tonight is being streamed online for free. First period just started, Besse had an assist on the first goal on a nice pass.

If you're watching the Benilde game, #8 Spencer Naas and #4 Johnny Austin are two guys heavily on the UW radar. Naas is centering Besse's line and Austin is a really good blue-liner.

And 3 more grinders for spots 13, 14, and 15 on the depth chart thus 7 on a roster.

A grinder with a scoring touch can work on any line (more commonly called a power forward). Burish was a grinder, but worked well with Earl and Pavs on the first line.

good point, agreed.

**** I didn't know Benilde's game was streaming I would have tuned in

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting: Filling the foundation with 5 stars

Game over, Benilde wins 5-1. Besse with 2 goals and 2 assists. Besse was on the ice for all five Benilde goals. Potential UW recruit Spencer Naas with a hat-trick for Benilde. Naas has played on the second line most of the season but with TJ Moore out tonight centered Besse's line with CC recruit Dan Labosky. Naas has a number of offers from pretty good schools (few NCHC schools, others out east), but from what I've heard would commit with a UW offer. Naas has visited Wisconsin.
