What was it about Drake that did not impress the staff? Size? Skill? Dedication?

I'm not sure where that quote came from. he's still with the team, this year his playing time or lackthereof will tell us everything we need to know about Mr. Drake

edit: or he could turn out to have a Craig Johnson type career and end up not playing much in years 1-3 and starting every game as a senior

Question don't mock. Is Brendan Woods not coming in next year because Heisenberg has him on his 2012 list and I know he already signed his LOI, if this is so it wouldn't suprise me as he wouldn't get much playing time next year. Answer would help.

Heisenberg list is often wrong on things like that.

Just talked to Heisenberg, he said, "In rolling the 2011 list over to the 2012 list, I have kept the potential ’12 deferrals on the list (easier to delete, than to recreate an entry if they defer)."

So Woods inclusion on the 2012 list means nothing, he will be here this fall.

Corbin McGuire will be remaining in the EJHL with Springfield this season instead of heading back to Fargo (USHL) where he started last year.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting: Filling the foundation with 5 stars

Tim Davison, a 2012 or 2013 recruit will return to Notre Dame Academy (and Team Wisconsin) for his senior season despite Chicago (USHL) trading for him.

Chuck, does this move help his development? I thought EJHL was a lower league than USHL?

All things equal I don't think it's really a debate that the USHL is a much better league but we don't necessarily have all the facts. There is a multitude of things that go into this decision that may have had an effect.

First and foremost how much playing time was he going to get with Fargo this season? He was in and out of the lineup last year and when he was in saw limited playing time. That's not good for any kid which is part of the reason why the UW coaching staff is irritated at the USHL. It's become big business now and they are worried more about winning now than developing players.

We also don't know Corbin's relationship with the Fargo coaches. He was adamant that he feels really comfortable with the coaches in Springfield and thinks they can really help him next season. If a kid is miserable all year he's not going to develop properly so why not have him in the place that HE wants to be.

So on the surface it may seem like he's taking a step back we really don't know everything involved in the decision.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting: Filling the foundation with 5 stars

Morgan Zulinick confirmed he's heading back to Salmon Arm of the BCHL this season. That's pretty big news because he never really closed the door on going to the WHL where he was picked pretty high. If he's in the BC this season he should be a lock to end up a Badger.

Good news. Thanks for the updates.

So, uh, how's your summer going UW? Good? Not so much now, I'm guessing:

#1 bruce ciskie is a hyperbolic

#2 it would surprise given the circumstances of this team (make-up) but stunning? Eaves has been rumored for the NHL and specifically New Jersey since before he was coaching at UW practically.

#3 I'm sure Zach Parise has been lobbying for this for some time

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting: Filling the foundation with 5 stars

Talk of the disposition of the head coach belongs in the general UW thread, not the recruiting thread. Thanks for your cooperation.

My summer is going great considering the Brewers are in first and the overpaid Cubs and their d-bag fans are nearly in last.
:p

Oh yeah, and we just swept the Twins.

Re: Wisconsin Recruiting: Filling the foundation with 5 stars

I can't find any explicit comments regarding this in the thread -- was Wittchow just offered a schollie if he were willing to commit for 2011-12? Is UW's new recruiting strategy potentially going to prevent a 2012-13 offer?

I'm under the impression that they are still talking but he does not have an offer from UW right now.

Sounds like Hudson native Ian McCoshen visited UMD on Monday per his twitter account. I interviewed him in December and at that time he said he listed Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio State, and Notre Dame as teams that he had mutal interest with. Looks like UMD is now in the running.

McCoshen will be back with Waterloo next season. He won't be college eligible until 2013 so he has two more years in the USHL. Eddie Wittchow from Burnsville is also playing with Waterloo next year who we are also on...certainly a team that the UW staff will be watching a lot this winter.
