Wisconsin HS Hockey team disqualified from playoffs

Re: Wisconsin HS Hockey team disqualified from playoffs

I agree the team rule is tough and 3 seems like a very small number to be considered a pattern and reason to punish the entire team. Maybe something like an individual limit of 2 and a team limit of 5 makes more sense.

Re: Wisconsin HS Hockey team disqualified from playoffs

Exactly, so why punish all 17 guys when you can punish the 1 or 2 problem makers? Just don't like this rule at all.

I'm not saying whether I personally agree or disagree....here is a rationale however for why punishing "the team" might make sense. If you (the team, the team's coach) know you have a problem player, either rein him in or bench him rather than have him put other people's lifelong ability to walk at risk.

In other words, you are not so much "punishing" the team; instead, you are providing the team with a very strong incentive to police themselves. The rest of the kids on the team "should" exert peer pressure on the problem player, the coach "should" think twice about playing the problem player, etc.

That being said, 3 seems to be too low a threshold for this severe a punishment, given that many of the calls will be arbitrary one way or the other, that's just human nature.

Agree with the concept, buy 3 is definitely two low. Let's say donkey kid gets two CFB, and so he gets sat down for awhile. Then a quick, fast, "accidental" CFB happens when a kid turns and the offender finishes the check. Now because of that, no playoffs? Just seems stupid.

Re: Wisconsin HS Hockey team disqualified from playoffs

I found a story about it and the reason the appeal was upheld was that one of the Game DQs occured at a tourney in MN where any CFB is a 5-min major and DQ. His hit was not along the boards, so the penalty would have been different in WI. That's what the story said, anyway, and I don't know if it's all true.
This is false. In high school as an official, we can call CFB 5 and 10 minute misconduct or 5 and a game misconduct.

Re: Wisconsin HS Hockey team disqualified from playoffs

Define collective effort and I could give you a real stinger.

I know in some Russian Gulag under Stalin one guy escaped and they shot all the prisoners the entire camp. "Collective" the way I used it has nothing to do with communism, I was aiming for more of a business angle, but "collective" is all my brain could come p with.

But, IIRC, any CFB into the boards or goal is an automatic DQ. No game misconduct option. The player will have to sit out the next game(s) not just the remainder of that game.

I was referring to gun control
