Wisconsin Hockey XXXVII: Waiting for the axe to fall

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVII: Waiting for the axe to fall

Again, thanks to coach Eaves for his efforts, but it's time to start over.

Thank goodness this is finally over.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVII: Waiting for the axe to fall

Rob Vogel via Twitter:

Breaking News: Sources confirm @BadgerMHockey coach Mike Eaves has been fired after 14 seasons & 1NCAA title. #badgers

Heard it on the radio coming to work today, the Big 1070.......probably from the Vogel tweet, he's on that station in the AM once and awhile. I am still a little weary of believing....

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVII: Waiting for the axe to fall

It's time to move on. We all thank Coach Eaves for the past thrills.

Now that the ax has fallen, should we lock this thread early, make a clean getaway, and start a fresh one?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVII: Waiting for the axe to fall

I think the fresh start should begin with the new coach.

<Submitted knowing the man will never see this>

As others have said, Coach Eaves - thank you for your years of service to the program. You will always be one of the greatest UW Hockey players of all time, and your ability to lead us to two NC games - winning one - will not be forgotten by this fan. I hope the difficulties that the team has had over the last few seasons which ultimately led to your dismissal as the Badgers coach today does not taint in the long term your thoughts of UW.

In 5 years when we bring back the 2006 team for their 15 year reunion, I hope you are in attendance as the wounds that both you and the fans have had heal - and we can give you the positive reception at that time that you ultimately deserve.

Moving Forward,

On Wisconsin

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVII: Waiting for the axe to fall

I think that it's time to move on from the past an look towards the rise of this program.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVII: Waiting for the axe to fall

Since we haven't heard anything about the assistant coaches yet, you have to think that they're burning up the cell minutes talking to all of the recruits at this point.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVII: Waiting for the axe to fall

I think it is a good sign that they did it so quickly with all the postseason things going on. They must have made up their minds before this weekend.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVII: Waiting for the axe to fall

Clearly this decision was locked and loaded going into the Big Ten tournament. Maybe I'm over-thinking this, but I would have liked this coming down on Sunday night/Monday morning. I don't want any distractions for the women's team out in New Hampshire and you just know that Coach Johnson will be asked about it, whether or not he has any interest in the job.

I don't disagree with this. I think that you let the staff & team know now, but hold off on the official press release until Monday.

I think the immediacy plays to the fact that they want the fans to know the urgency in getting this ship turned in the right direction. I don't think it will affect the women's program at all. I doubt there is any press setting than the Patty Kazmaier thing on Saturday and the post game presser today, both of which happen after the rodent tilt today.
