The Wild and the Gophers are unrelated! For starters, Wisconsin is largely in the Wild's market. Second...it's an NHL team! Tons of Wild fans are Wisconsin Badgers fans as well, and vice versa. (The Wild became my second favorite NHL team since I moved here for school, because of that.) Hatred of the gophers (indicated by "rodentsota") shouldn't affect how UW fans see the Wild...especially with a Badger's name on the back of the jersey. Duke fans aren't going to hate the Carolina Panthers because of the name "Carolina" and the powder blue. They'll only hate the Panthers if they're already a fan of a rival NFC South team.

Of course, I don't know what your NHL allegiances are, so you may have other reasons to hate them.

I could go on with many many, many, many, other examples, but it is of no import. You cannot understand fully. It is ok. Enjoy your Wild Broadcast and shopping at Target. But know that it is beyond us to do likewise. It is enough for us to know that despite your naivety surrounding Minnesotans, you will take care to represent us well and never stray from the Badger path, for as it is written, so it is: Once a Badger, Always a Badger. Let's Go Red.

As Parise is my witness, I was in a high school class room this afternoon for some volunteer stuff I do and saw a map showing that North Dakota east of the Missouri was part of the Minnesota Territory. I was so stunned I had to sit down. I'm over sixty, and I've just been told I'm adopted. Worse, my real parents were brother and sister.

FYI to WiscDC....The feelings Wisko so eloquently portrayed for how we feel about rodentsota also apply to the flat and barren wasteland attached to the southern border of WI.

I have no specific NHL allegiance, though I've always had a soft spot for the Red Wings (love the colors, imagine that!) and the Rangers (love Mike Ritcher). Otherwise I root for the teams that have UW players, the least of which is the Wild. But my rooting is only casual and I don't live and breathe every moment like I do for UW men's and women's hockey. I'm so nutso for UW hockey I literally destroyed my wedding ring pounding on the glass a few weeks ago at the UW/Rodent tilt Saturday. Luckily Kohls had a 70% off jewelry 2 weeks ago and the wife had a 30% off coupon, got a new ring for $125! Public apology to wifeypooh Jill. You are the best honeybunches!

Why is it so windy in Wisconsin? Because Minnesota sucks and Illinois blows. Enough said.

As far as a ring goes, tungsten carbide rings are cheap and basically indestructible....even on the glass at hockey.

Also agree on the tungsten rings. Although be warned, one still can slip off your finger into the Gulf of Mexico while handling a reasonably large sea trout for your nephew quite easily. I felt terrible until Mrs. McBadgerton lost her ring in Hong Kong harbor. Which is another story, but our original rings are somewhat permanently at rest about as far apart as they can be, while still remaining on the planet.

The only worthwhile thing I can think of that Illinois ever produced is soon to be Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, Cheap Trick. Of course the Rockford rockers spent a ton of time in their early years playing in Wisconsin, so perhaps that explains it.

I apologize for nothing. For me, the only good to come from the entire state is Lincoln, deep dish pizza and the Chicago style hot dog.

Interestingly, I was reading JSOnline today, and they had a great article about how WI got it's boarders. At one time, the plan was for the S border to run from the very south tip of Lake Michigan westward, but the IL people wanted a better harbor, so they had their way and got the border moved north, even though the majority of people who lived there wanted to be part of WI. It really sucks that MI got the UP to appease them die to IN and OH taking a chunk of the south of the state.

Fantastic story! I was going to see if a jeweler could "weld" my gold wedding ring back together (it snapped in 2), but wifeypooh picked out a really nice looking gold and silver ring which I like very much. I do handle large fish while fishing, I will be careful when handling. This is actually my 3rd wedding ring. My original one was stolen. I worked at a factory and took it off at the sink basin to scrub up, left it there and walked back to my office. An hour later I realized I had left it there, but it was gone and no one ever fessed up to stealing it. I sure would have liked to fire the ahole who stole my wedding ring.

So, here we are at the midpoint of the season, here's some random and hopefully non-inflammatory comments.

Some of the late in the summer pick-ups are looking good. The Sexton for Dougherty trade was a plus, Sexton looks way better this year than Dougherty ever did, probably the big age difference. Jurusik is the go to guy, replacing Opilka. Hard to know if it was a positive or negative trade, but Jurusik is the every day starter and I can't say that I can blame any one loss or tie on him from the games I've seen. The goalie has to be your best PKer, and UW is only allowing 12% conversion rate, which is awesome. Johnson has been playing regularly. Zirbel has played in the last 6 games or so and has been a pker, so there has to be a level of trust there with the coaches. Some new guys have not seen the light of day....Barnes, Keryluk. The more heralded Fr are all contributing very nicely.

Veteran observations....Soleway -13, holy crap, very shocked to see this. Another shocker, Wittchow has 0 points for as much ice time as he sees (another shocker, he had 0 points last year!). I'm a little disappointed in Hughes', Rockwood's and Soleway's offensive production. These guys will need to have better second halves if UW is going to conquer the .500 hill. Great to see Beese leading the team in scoring, as we all assumed he would be. Wags, Linehart and Davison's jumps in production kinda offsets the disappointing guys. Linehart looks better overall.

PP is a very respectable 22%. I already mentioned the pk is very good. It's great to see special teams be more special in an good way. Obviously the new players are having a positive impact, and one would think the new coaches are too. The lads just can't get all loose and free wheeling, they have to be responsible in the D zone and not allow any easy looks.

I think a .500 can be attained. That's not touching the standard we all have for UW hockey, but a .500 record will be progress and will ramp up the outlook for next year, which has to be contending for the B6 title.

Generally agree....the trend is positive but really in large part based on the context of last years 4 win season. Again....striving for .500 is not really a bar I want/expect with Wisconsin Hockey given all the advantages it has over most. For me, .500 should be the absolute basement (in a season where all the stars align against the boys...early departures, injuries, etc.). We do seem to be on the Eaves rollercoaster upward trajectory where next season we will have a roster that is pretty battle tested and adding a few nice pieces. I like the direction/trajectory we are on for next season and the following, but can't help but think the trap door is right behind that....again for the 4th time with Eaves. For me the issue with Eaves is the valleys are to low and the peaks not high or frequent enough. Wisconsin shouldn't be really good only every 4th year any more then it shouldn't be putrid every 4th year and then only mediocre to okay in between.

Is Fredrick coming in next season? I know we have fallen to a depth where regular media coverage just doesn't exist and unfortunately Chuck is not longer able to add to the dialog....but it seems weird that a top end recruit for next season doesn't letter of intent in the early signing period and it hardly creates a blip on the radar. Am I missing something like maybe he is to young to sign his LOI and had to wait till Spring?
