Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the problem!!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

No time for that, the boys are studying for exams.

Oh... I know this might seem very odd in Grand Forks, but at UW they've decided that 120 credits in recreational ice fishing and wagon wheel repair apparently will not constitute a degree. Plus, it seems the boys actually have to take their exams themselves, these days.

They better be studying, because they sure don't have a future playing hockey.

That remains to be seen, but they'll be ok either way. They are all taking a masters course in corporate raiding. Currently they're covering how to infiltrate a successful concern and drive down it's value to historic lows. (making it vulnerable to hostile takeover) I believe Barry is teaching it.

An exception to the old adage: "Those can't do, teach."

Just curious, how much does Barry make? Is he really getting over a million?

Any other Wisconsin coaching retirements announced today? Just asking,,,,

Barry will make $1.01 million this year in salary and is under contract until 2018. $500k comes from UW athletics, the rest from gift funds from the UW foundation. He is in the top 10 in AD pay nationally and top three in the B1G. (with OSU, Nebraska being very similar). Vanderbilt's David Wiliams is #1 at $3.3 million, although he is vice chancellor as well.

In Barry's defense, I suppose you could argue that despite the issues with Hockey, as a group, the 23 sports at UW have done fairly well overall during his tenure. Or at the very least, UW athletics is generating a lot of money, ranking #2 in the nation in revenue at over $100 million.

based on one of the rumors on the board previously that they didn't want to fire eaves because they were looking for a football and basketball coach (true or not, just rumors in one of the previous two threads this was covered) Makes me think barry and co. could use it as an excuse to keep MM around for a little while longer.

Since it is a public institution, you can see all employees salaries (not sure where you get the "gift funds" information from). Here is a link to a searchable database: http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/lo...tml_9b9f1b0c-a915-11e2-aa91-001a4bcf887a.html

This shows Barry at $500k, Eaves at $236k, Bo Ryan at $400k. Direct link to Madison Athletics salaries over $200k: http://host.madison.com/wsj/news/lo...CPIorderby=Position_Salary&cbCurrentPageSize=

Thank you for the reply.

Well, I figured that Badger/Gopher fans would be more than happy to call them the *** Hawks.

Except I'm not sure you fully understand the crude and barbaric nature of us Nodaks, gwh. We are like the Mongol Horde and will probably embrace being called *** Hawks.

Not to say we are not also sophisticated and charming in every way. Just complex, I guess.

Oh, I understand the Nodaks, my wife is one of them. Buying her a jersey as a gift a decade ago shaved at least 5 years off of my life due to the strain that it put on my heart when I bought it.

At one time, I suppose you saw Heatley jerseys in Atlanta.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXVI: Stop looking for the silver lining and ignoring the probl

I have actually seen some here in recent memory. People here still love (and miss) the Thrashers.

I had a similar experience.....my son is collecting former UW player NHL jerseys. He wants a Heatley for Christmas. I can't buy a Senators jersey due to the fact he has a Turris jersey and he doesn't want duplicate teams. I could have bought a Heatley Thrashers jersey on ebay months ago, but I stupidly did not pull the trigger knowing how rare that is due to wanting to discuss with wifeypooh first. I ended up buying a Heatley/rodentsota jersey on ebay. I feel really dirty about it and I will not allow him to wear it in my presence. I know he'll like it because I floated the idea to him months ago and was shocked when did not just immediately call me insane by even suggesting he own anything with the name rodentsota on it. I was shocked by that seeing I thought I had done a good job brainwashing er, teaching him the ways of the world.

The Wild and the Gophers are unrelated! For starters, Wisconsin is largely in the Wild's market. Second...it's an NHL team! Tons of Wild fans are Wisconsin Badgers fans as well, and vice versa. (The Wild became my second favorite NHL team since I moved here for school, because of that.) Hatred of the gophers (indicated by "rodentsota") shouldn't affect how UW fans see the Wild...especially with a Badger's name on the back of the jersey. Duke fans aren't going to hate the Carolina Panthers because of the name "Carolina" and the powder blue. They'll only hate the Panthers if they're already a fan of a rival NFC South team.

Of course, I don't know what your NHL allegiances are, so you may have other reasons to hate them.
