Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Boring boring boring. Not fun at all.

Agree they need to shoot off the pass one timer style.

The place was empty so you get pretty much any seat you wanted.

I enjoyed the game and thought it was entertaining. Maybe the people I was with were more fun.

The team needs to work on shooting off the pass.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Wow, were we at the same game?
I realize that the standards may have between set pretty low after years of Eaves' boring systems, but this weekend looked a lot different than the past few years.
More aggressive in the neural zone, more aggressive gaining the offensive zone (not nearly as much chip and chase, lots of play through the middle).
Would it have been nice to see a pair of 10-0 games, sure... But that wasn't a realistic expectation. I was quite surprised and excited by the pace of play in general this weekend.

When we are excited about how the Badgers play against a first-year, independent, D1 team, the phrase 'Oh, how the mighty have fallen' comes to mind.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Went to the game last night... Very disappointed by the attendance. I thought the pace was high for the first 2 periods and then we got served in the third. I really like Jurusik; think he's gonna be good. I think I'm gonna buy tickets for the Saturday Minnesota game so I can remember what it was like when I had season tickets from 2006-2008.

They played the team on their schedule and got 2 wins. The way you are looking at it, the team was in a lose-lose situation this weekend.

Some people are looking at this whole season as a lose/lose situation since Eaves is still around. He could pull off a miracle and win the title and they would still want him gone because of "irreparable damage done".

Shoot off the pass.....YES! They had some great chances go awry by not doing that.

I have to admit I was wrong. I was wrong to pitch a ***** about the TV schedule. If you want to see UW play, it's there for the taking on BTN plus. 10 bucks a month isn't going to kill me, I just did not add the next tier of Charter's sports package to get the 300 level sports channels this year. Hockey is fun, that's why I watch.

Would it be awesome to sweep the sue this weekend and get over .500? :)

They made an average goalie look pretty good Saturday night by holding onto the puck too long. They were making good passes and cycling it well, just need to grip and rip a bit faster.

Do you need Charter to get that package or is that something you can just grab over the internet?

There were some nice building blocks this weekend. They need to play much better in their own zone this weekend. The Sioux are going to pounce on those loose pucks and capitalize.

This weekend is back to playing with the elite of the NCAA. Should be interesting if they can make the next 3 series competitive.

I like an atmosphere. With no students and probably the smallest crowd I have seen on a Saturday at the Kohl Center (other than Norther Michigan a few weeks back), there was no energy in the building. For me that was the great part of Wisconsin Hockey, but I'm afraid that might be gone for many, many years. You could hear the players on the ice communicating and I sit in the second level.

You need to take TimA's approach "Hockey is fun, that's why I watch.".

You are missing a very positive thing out of this whole thing.....the team is communicating to each other on the ice.

Hockey is certainly fun to watch, but if I am paying $40 for two seats to a game against ASU, $5 for a soda and $4.50 for nachos, they better have a good atmosphere. If I wanted to just "watch" I would pay the $10/ month and sit at home. But I want the game day atmosphere as part of the entertainment value, which at least right now, is gone completely.

Yes they are playing better, but they were also playing a club team with a couple transfers.

I can hear my daughter's soccer team communicating when they are playing, but it doesn't always mean that it's a worthwhile product to watch. (If my daughter ever reads this, she will understand.)

Geez, you are really jaded over this team. It was a joke.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

The atmosphere is a joke and I'm glad we got two wins this weekend and it's something to build on. But it will be back to reality this weekend when the team plays at NoDak. I hope the team plays hard but I think the out come is going to be bad. NoDak plays really hard and it's a tough place to play. Now that's an atmosphere that the Kohl center use to be!

Honestly, I'm not as jaded as you think but won't deny that I am jaded. Without a doubt, I am very down on the state of the program, but I am happy that they got both wins this weekend (as it would have been really depressing for the team if they hadn't.)

It's just hard to see the hockey program in this state. Never in my lifetime has there been a less than half empty arena, regardless of the team on the ice. Anyone wearing even the most rose colored glasses has to acknowledge that's just a depressing thing to see.

I will still be going to the game against Denver on the 21st with my daughters, because we are still Wisconsin hockey fans and they have been begging me to take them to a game since we moved away from Wisconsin.

I will sit and listen to the games on 1310 via iHeartRadio even though I'm in Atlanta, and will continue to do so regardless of how the season goes because watching or listening to Wisconsin hockey is what I have done on Friday and Saturday nights since I was a kid. Still, I will grumble from time to time about things because I do care about this program. I guess that's where I'm at right now.

I think you just need a cable provider, I'm not sure if the satellite companies would work or not. I had to use my Charter login to sign up.

According to the BTN site, it doesn't sound like you need a cable provider.

A subscription to BTN Plus on BTN2Go does not require a Big Ten Network TV subscription with a TV provider. - See more at: http://btn.com/btn2go-big-ten-digital-network/#sthash.rkLVhV4e.dpuf

I believe there are two different items at play that tend to confuse people. And when you are a company trying to make money, sometimes that is a good thing.

BTN2Go is the basic program. You can access this through the website or a mobile app. Access to the basic level of BTN2Go is linked to your video service provider (I have Charter, my Charter service includes BTN, I get BTN2Go by confirming my Charter credentials).

BTNPlus is the expanded program. You can also access this through the website or a mobile device (I Believe that access is still through the BTN2Go App). Access to this level of programming is a specific subscription outside of any video provider you already pay.

I believe that the two program levels are somewhat exclusive of each other. I believe that if you do not have BTN2Go access through your video provider, but have a subscription to BTNPlus that you will only be able to see the BTNPlus items and won't be able to see the basic BTN2Go items.

I did the BTNPlus thing last year to catch a few games. It wasn't the greatest. They make it very easy to sign up, you can do it right from the website. But once you are in they don't make it as easy to get out. I had not realized that my subscription was still going into the summer, they use a different name on your credit cared statement, it was the company that does the video streaming service "NeuLion", not actually BTNPlus. I went into my account settings to cancel and spent 15 minutes looking through all of the various account settings and payment settings pages before I saw a tiny link at the bottom of the page. You have to e-mail them a request to cancel your service. That's kind of shady to me, and the reason that they won't be getting any more of my money. And yes, they processed my request pretty quickly (I think it was less than an hour, maybe because I was also chatting with their Customer Service people at the same time), but it is the principle of the matter. If you can sign up for a service through the website, you should be able to cancel the service through the same website.

This is correct. BTN+ only gives access to games that aren't televised. So games on FSW, FSN, BTN etc are not able to be viewed with a BTN+ subscription.

I totally agree with you there. I was debating signing up until I heard your story.

NHL Gamecenter is very similar. They will automatically renew unless you call their phone number which isn't as easy to track down as it should be either.

I'll stick with the radio for now.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

As far as I know, anyone wishing to watch this week's excursion to Grand Forks will have to hitch a ride on a westward wagon to the Ralph, or cough up $16.95 for a month to watch the games on NCHC TV. This is also self-renewing, so be careful out there.
