Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

Does anyone have an "in" with the AD? I'll help redevelop the hockey brand for free.

Banners restored in the rafters, more band, less canned music, kids allowed to have fun AND bring their goldy on a stick etc as well as being signs of whatever size they want including the larger Canadian club-type signs, return of the BLC, and I have more ideas like how about bringing HS teams to watch for free? How about having all WI HS coaches visit and catch a game for free?

All of this of course is contingent on 2 things. FIRE Eaves and hire solo for marketing and branding!

Predictions for the weekend?

I think we actually win our first game of the year. I can see coming out flat tonight and getting beat, but pulling it together tomorrow night.

Yeah, I have low expectations. What do you all think?

What I think will happen? A split.

What expectations should be imo: anything less than a dominating sweep is simply not acceptable.

I am sure many who visit this site are hoping for a disastrous weekend for the Badgers to provide the impetus for the firing of Coach Eaves.....Go ASU!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

If people actually want UW to lose this weekend to prove a point, get off this thread. You sound like an idiot.

I feel good about this weekend. The key will be in goal. They need consistent steady play there. From what I've gleaned off the interweb, that has been UW's downfall so far. If we had Rumps UW would have at least a .500 record right now. This freshman class has talent. I'm interested seeing the new breakout tonight with my BTN plus subscription. I wonder if you can go back and watch old games with BTN Plus?

I want the quickest path to a new coaching regime, a new start, a rebranding, a rebirth. And return to national prominence/contender. If losing to asu is the impetus than so be it.

Out of curiosity, how many of the banners do you want to see?

Here is my take:
Hockey - National Champs is a must, "It's a great day for hockey" is a must, Crease Creatures is a must
NCAA appearances, Conference champs (WCHA, BIG), Conference tourney champs (WCHA, BIG)...meh, I could take them or leave them

Basketball - National Champ is a must, Final Fours is a must, Grateful Red is a must
NCAA appearances, NIT appearances, Conference champs, Conference tourney champs...again, meh...

There is a lot of stuff, and limited space when you have to account for 3 programs, I can see why they made a change. I don't particularly agree with what they did, if they wanted to do something on the second ring to recognize achievements I would have gone with something bolder and more pronounced.

But I understand both sides of the argument. You want the rafters full of banners so that when people walk in (fans or recruits) they can look up and see the history of the program. But at the same time, what more do you need to see than the row of championship banners that hangs above the Crease Creatures? There are only a few schools capable of putting up such a display, why clutter the space up with all of the other stuff?

Do you want everything up there that used to be there and just keep adding to it? Where do you (personally) draw the line?

Predictions for the weekend?

Tonight, the Wild will beat the Blackhawks 3-1, and I will see it in person :D. This is part one of my "former" Badger hockey season ticket money. In minutes, I'll be splitting my pregame warm-up between Tom Reed's and the Grand .

I don't think I can make a Badger prediction; I'm numb towards this program and wouldn't be surprised if we split or got swept.

I'll be your lovely assistant; 100% behind your post.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I don't think that I had seen anyone mention this yet.

For those of you that long for the days of yore, you may want to mark a few dates on your calendars and buy a ticket or two.

The 1980-1981 squad will be back on the weekend of Nov 21 (Denver) to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their title.
The 2005-2006 squad will be back on the weekend of Jan 30 (Alaska) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their title. The 05-06 women will also have events planned for that weekend (Saint Cloud State).

For hockey: ncaa championship banners, wcha championship banners, ncaa appearances banner; all of their appearances were on one banner, w ha playoff championships banner; all years on one banner, then a special spot above the student section for student made or influenced banners like Canadian club etc.
There's Plenty of room for this. The KC is not that much smaller in seating capacity compared to the United center and the UC has a banner for absolutely everything the Hawks and Bulls have accomplished since their inceptions

I will donate my Canadian flag. I used to get to the coliseum as early as I could to hang it as close to the American flag as I could. It got to the point where the usher working that area would leave a 4 foot spot (you could only hang banners so close to Old Glory) for me to hang it on Fridays. I always left it up since I had Saturday's as well and it never disappeared.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

So if I pay for BTN Plus, can I watch the game delayed? IE, start it at 8:30 or so tonight? Or is it only for live broadcasts?

BTN Plus games are archived and you can watch later.

Can we please put that tired argument to bed? The Kohl Center is not the United Center.

The UC is 10% longer and 13% wider (external building dimensions, pulled from Google Earth) which results in over 25% more square footage. The US also seats 18% (basketball) or 20% (hockey) more fans (from Wikipedia's listed capacities).

You can keep saying "we aren't that much smaller than them!", but the sizes of each space don't back it up.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXXIV: A Season without Chuck

I predict UW wins both games rather easily. It is ASU, after all, and Mike Eaves deserves the chance to keep his job.

Actually, no, I won't stop making that comparison and here's why:
- have you been inside the UC? Take a look at just how many banners they have up. If you haven't been there than just google the place and take a look at the number and sizes of their banners. Now tell me with a straight face why Wisconsin needs to reduce their banners. One for each ncaa title for 6. One more for badger Bob's "it's a great day for hockey". One that lists each ncaa appearance. One that lists each wcha conference championship and one that lists each wcha tournament championship. That's 10 banners and the kohl center can support a great deal more than that. So what's the problem?

And to further bolster my point. Go to a Blackhawks game. You see that atmosphere? UW used to have that. The banners are an excellent background for fans to get revved about and recruits to be in awe of. You hide the history and you may as well vacate those wins and appearances, out of sight out of mind.
