Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

I am saying its the same thing every time coaches go on the radio. Win loose or draw, never enough. By now nothing the coaches say will make much of a difference. They still start slow on the raod almost every time. yes it will hurt them a ton in the post season. This team has played to the level of their competition all season . They have dug themselves out of dissapointing play early in the year. Minnesaota was no better than Buckey when they played Penn State the next night. Whne the coaches come on the radio I will just tune out. You can relish in the "Honesty".

So, you'd rather they lie about how the team actually played?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

I think it's good that Coach Shuchuk is focusing on the slow/sluggish starts and letting the team know they played poorly despite the win. While he was talking about the 2nd PSU game he's harped on this a couple of times previously. Obvs the staff knows if the team plays 1-2 periods like that in the NCAA's and it could be a long summer.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

I get why Eaves would say that, but I feel like such a poor start shouldn't happen at this point in the season when we have as many veterans as we do. Just my opinion.

My thoughts exactly. Nice for Eaves to try and deflect, but if this group still hasn't figured it out yet with only 2 games to go, will they ever?

I agree as well. At this stage in the season, it has to come from the players.

Off topic, I see Madison Capitol USHL ticket prices are out. Not too bad. IMO the higher the better at the Coliseum ($13); the lower seating just isn't steep enough (can't see the corners) and cost more. I always liked 320, 330, 304, 314. Badger tix for the regular Joe are what $20-$24?

I walked around the Coli quite a bit when I was there for state last week and I forgot how many horrible seats there are. No one wants to sit in the lower region because it's not steep enough. If you sit higher but are in the corners you can't see the near corner on the ice. Basically, there's a couple sections on each size that are worth sitting in.

For all the complaints that can be made about the Kohl Center's sight lines for hockey (especially in the third tier), it's easy to forget what a significant improvement it still is over the sight lines at the Coliseum.

I was remembering sitting in the 300s behind the nets. You could see the crossbar (if you leaned forward) and nothing behind it.

A LOT of play is in the corners and behind the net.

I don't miss the Coliseum at all.

Wish they had made LaBahn about twice as big so maybe the HS tourneys could be there instead.

Will never, ever forget the first time I sat down and lost my entire view behind a hand rail. That's an extra special level of screwed.

Fun fact about LaBahn arena - If you sit down in the seats right over the Zamboni tunnel in a neutral posture, the guard rail is in the way of much of the offensive zone. (Stand up, and it's at waist level! :D)

Those situations are annoying, but at least a small lean this way or that, or moving your head just a few inches can make a radical difference with the angles.

I'm certain my issue in the 300 level of Kohl wasn't an issue for someone less midget-inclined than I. Even still, it was hilarious. We weren't even in the front row. It was third or fourth and had to do with the extension of the stairs and landing.

Ohhhhh so the whole guardrail structure up there...I was thinking about individual bars right in front of someone's face, but open air all the way above and below.

How'd the Crease Creature summit go, WiscDC?

Not sure. I was so eager to sign up that I forgot I have this thing called a "class" on Monday evenings. Once I realized the conflict, I replied to the woman who sent the confirmations to students who would be attending saying I wouldn't be able to go. She replied asking for any feedback on the topics they had on the agenda, so I went over pretty much everything I could think of. I also mentioned some of the topics/opinions mentioned here to a friend of mine who did go.

As much as I would have liked to go, I like that I was able to formulate some of my ideas while effectively relaying your feedback directly to somebody who is directly involved with this stuff and who asked for it.

And yes, I emphasized the overwhelming response of "more band, less canned [music and minor league "entertainment"]" in my email and to anyone I knew going to the thing.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

There was some talk about having the band more.

There was also talk about how bad the guy that came up on the video board was. We all enjoyed the added lights and smoke to begin the game, as well as the flag and other pre-game stuff. We talked for awhile about the sign policies, that was a mixed bag. There was a lot of talk about the ticket set up, in regards to the 300 seats and other options. We also discussed how it works before we are allowed in the Kohl, such as large groups of people just cutting and and such. They showed a graph showing how basically the amount of student tickets bought and redeemed have become a third of what they were in 2011. We discussed some other things too, if you ask about it, I'll let you know if it came up

I believe it. I remember coming to games while I was in high school and all three levels of the student section were packed. I'm a senior at UW now and we can't even fill the first two levels.

Wow. That's really sad.

This year's student section not only didn't go all the way back in the third deck (I think they had a couple rows up there, probably not in the front), but was only on the ends. Even two years ago, the second deck student section wrapped around to 210.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

Finally some good video of Kerdiles' goal. https://t.co/lSBWnKUq70

I watched the first half of the psu Friday game on the dvr (thanks to whoever gave the heads up on the b6 broadcast) and Kerdiles is just amazing. He is so quick in everything he does, his hands are awesome. Not that we didn't already know this, but it just reinforced the fact he's gone. If by some miracle he comes back and he plays with a crafty C, well, just hand him the Hobey right now.

From what I read about Sat's game, it reminded me of the last game on the year last year allowing breakaways and odd man rushes like there was no tomorrow. That crap can't happen anymore. The lads need to play smart and play the system. They are talented enough where they don't have to take a lot of chances along their offensive blueline.
