Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

A little optimistic, but there's no way UND is 2.

What do you guys think of our USCHO ranking of 10th?

I think they just rolled the dice and this is what they came up with. UW is too inexperienced outside of the goalies to warrant the ranking. It isn't like Eaves is bringing in 4 first round draft picks, not this year anyway.

Radio voices: Posick/Perrin for home games; Posick/Capobianco on the road.

I don't know how much you guys listen to the radio, but Perrin is absolutely awesome alongside Posick. Had a chance to listen to him quite a bit last year when I was traveling and really enjoyed it. And I'm not just saying that because I've known him since I was a little kid.

I agree that he was good last year. I listen to the game on 88.1 while at the Kohl Center and very much enjoy it. Yes I am one of the nerds with one ear bud in while watching the game...

Everyone should listen to Posick call the games as he does a great job. Even if the timing is off on televised away games, I still listen to him.

So why is not UW not part of the B6/HE challenge?

Listening the radio....with so few games booked for TV I think I'll be listening to the radio a lot. :(

I don't know if this has been stated yet, but Zulinick is wearing #9 this year.

Cullen Hurley playing D at the scrimmage today. Lines are pretty close to what was expected (few exceptions, obviously).

Zully-LaBate-Besse
Navin-Soleway-Hughes
Ustaski-Wagner-Rockwood
Cavallini-Pappe-McGuire

I think they'd be a bit more balanced if they had Rockwood C Zully and Besse, LaBate in Navin's spot and Navin in Rockwood's. I just don't see LaBate as a playmaker type you'd want @ C.

I also can't believe Eaves would run a all Fr line out there, though all those guys are in their 20's...

Ustaski is in his 20s. Rockwood and Wagner are not.

Wisconsin doesn't have enough quality centers at this point to not have LaBate play in the middle. He's going to get every opportunity to be this teams No. 1 guy in the middle. While Zulinick possesses nice offensive skills, he's got work to do defensively. Center has by far the most responsibility in Eaves' system, which is why he doesn't use many freshmen at the pivot in the early going. Wagner is a a kid who is good on draws and plays both ends of the ice. Not a shock to see him given an opportunity. Hughes will be a center down the road, maybe even this year if they feel Soleway can give them a better shot coming off the wing. Ustaski could also see time in the middle as the season goes along.

I think we'll see quite a few line combinations in the early going, more than probably the past years because there are so many fresh faces.

A few more comments....I like what I saw out of Cavaliini last year in his limited time on the ice. He had a nose for the puck and being in the right place at the right time. I also like McGuire getting a look, he's been in the system a whole year, just not played under fire yet. He was highly touted when he committed, so I hope he's able to show us a little flash and great effort. I also hope Navin can come through this year on the scoring sheet since he is playing with guys who will give him great opportunities to bury the puck. Soleway was a family favorite last year, he crushed people and was in position to make things happen.

Wisconsin Hockey: Optimism Abounds.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

North Dakota will come into Madison this year with a smaller, less physical team than usual. Do the Badgers have the size and attitude to take advantage of that, particularly around the net?
