some will be in the top 5% tax bracket next year, while others will be getting bj's from hot coeds in a few hours. I don't feel bad for them.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

Tough way to go out for UW. Obviously didn't play well enough to win. Congrats to North Dakota.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

I know the guys didn't meet your expectations, but congrats on the conference tourney trophy and a pretty good season. Hey, at least your loss to a four seed isn't nearly as embarrassing as ours. ;) :)

Just for clarification, you're referring to the past and not being clairvoyant about the game later today with Robert Morris, correct?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

Dear wisco,
Sometimes the better team does not win. You know this. UND knows this. Nodak played a relatively sloppy game against a more talented team. As a Sioux fan, I don't feel as bad as I should. I mean, you guys are deer-lickers for god sake. I truly wish you the best of luck next year, hopefully kicking goofer rear end. Congrats on the big10 tourney win.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

That loss really stings, and feels so wrong. I'm pretty shocked that men's basketball is still alive while hockey isn't. I'm a fan of the basketball team, of course, but a bitter part of me hates that hockey will be swept under the rug for the next nine months.

Apparently, Joel Rumpel went up to some fans at the hotel after the game to thank them for coming and supporting the team. That's nice.

P.S. North Dakota should have the win vacated because of that corporate (Diet Coke) imagery on Gothberg's mask. That's probably a few violations.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

I guess the whole women with teeth bj thing would be strange from a guy from North Dakota.

Not if they take their dentures out......

Yeah it would have been better to go out in some sort of blaze of glory 3 ot struggle, but as someone said earlier, at the end of the ncaa there's 15 bitter fan bases and 1 happy one, so the odds are stacked against you every year. As my eldest said last night "I thought this was THE year Dad...." We all pretty much knew deep inside this could be THE year, but it wasn't probably going to be THE year, just by the inconsistantcies we all saw. The hope every fan has inside and our love for the game us keeps us coming back.

The sue capitalized on UW mistakes and UW did not capitalize on all the sue's mistakes, that is a typical script. All the penalties in the 2nd period sucked the flow out of UW and they just could not regain that flow in the 3rd. Even once they tied it I still had the feeling of impending doom and not the feeling they're going to pull this one out.

There is a very good F recruiting class coming in, the D and G are returning a ton of talent with a ton of potential development for these guys, I think the outlook positive. Truthfully if McCabe leaves, it's a loss, but he's not at a dominating Schultz or McD level yet, so if he leaves I won't be terribly bummed. I feel the opposite about Kerdiles.

Being in the b6 actually makes it easier to get into the ncaa than being in the wcha, only having to win 3 games in a row vs 5, with 2 of those possibly being on the road. Again hope springs eternal.

Wisconsin Hockey: Hope and bj's from fun lovin' gals with teeth.

I never feel that way. They're completely separate and if hoops wins today they will have earned all of the attention that they receive. Bigger stage = lights shining brighter.

Hockey fans need to get past this inter-UW inferiority complex due to attention levels. Imagine being a UW Cross Country fan or Softball fan. To be honest, it's kinda Jan-like. Think about it.

If the hockey team wants more attention, they'll need to do something worthy of attention and do it consistently for several years at a time.

Either way though, the football first, basketball second and hockey after that ranking will never change. Not at UW and not nationwide.

I for one am very happy to follow a college that has multiple programs that are successful. Sure, I wish football and hoops could get over the hump and at least contend for a title, but even the status-quo is pretty good in comparison to other places.

And I wouldn't trade the multi-sport success to go back to the "Glory Years" where UW hockey was the only thing in town worth following. To be honest, those "Glory Years" are starting to be an awfully long time ago. 2 titles now in the last 30 years.

The eighties and nineties weren't as great as some seem to remember. Better than now? Sure. Still thought of as one of the premier hockey programs? Yep. But 4 of our titles were won by 1983.

Again, if hockey (fan) wants to be respected and get attention, then hockey team needs to (re) earn it -once again, the glory years are a LONG time ago - and stand alongside, never again in front of football and basketball.

Go Badger ballers!

I think we have a decent shot at Arizona. It's been 14 years now since the last FF. Sure would be fun to have that happen again and especially with this team as they are far better than the 2000 team.

Gurtholfin;5934515 Either way though said:
Agree in (at least) two ways: 1) Feel lucky you have a school that is succeeding at the top level in multiple sports. Makes the whole season meaningful and is healthy for the fan base of each sport. 2) There's really nothing wrong with hockey taking second stage to FB and BB in terms of emphasis, which all comes down to mass viewership and the dollars that follow. This sport is not for everyone to follow or enjoy because not that many experience it in some capacity growing up.

More TV and more development at every level is a good thing, and I think Badger fans must feel good about the new conference alignment. You have more televised games with bigger programs that are really coming on in terms of development. That has to be good for UW. I'm frankly concerned about NoDak, but that's another discussion for a Nodak thread.

If I were a Badger fan (and I've lived in Wis long enough to be morphing a little, which is probably evident and which will probably affect my karmic destiny to the point where I will be forced to live my next life as a babbling Dubber in my Siouxniverse). As a Badger fan, I'd be very happy to have a basketball game to be excited about today after last night's disappointment. NCAA Hockey tourney success is too fickle to count on as your sole source of fan satisfaction. A puck off a body, a pipe, a bad ice hop over a stick. Emotions riding over a razor's edge.

Go get Arizona.

I don't know what is worse, another year of unfulfilled promise under Mike Eaves or knowing that going into next year you zero chance of having a contending team?

With the probable early departures of McCabe and Kerdiles, next year's returning depth is scary at best. Without those two back at Wisco, here is what you head into the season with:

PLAYER G /A / PTS

LaBate 11-11-22
Schulz 1-15-16
Besse 8 -6-14
Zulinick 4-10-14
Navin 4- 5- 9
Solway 1- 7- 8
Wittechow 1- 6 -7
Paape 0- 1- 1
Cavallini 0- 0- 0
Davidson DNP

Now I think LaBate will be a solid power forward and I think Grant Besse is going to be a really good player, but this roster is almost completely devoid of high end D1 players and unless the new crop of Freshmen excel, we could be looking up at everyone including Penn State in the Big 10 standings!

I look for Penn State to be much improved next season which leads me to believe that what you say here is a distinct possibility.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey XXIX: Yes, this is the Rumpel Rink!

Freshmen class (Rockwood, Ustaski, Ford's, Wagner, Dougherty, Linhart, Hughes) is solid, I hope you guys realize this. Minnesota wasn't suppose to be this good with this plethora of freshmen this season. I look for Besse and LaBate to have big years, Soleway will be a beast next year, Ustaski will be scary for all opponents, my gut says Rockwood is the next Zengerle, Hughes is a 15-20 goal scorer, and the defense will be stacked with Schulze, Wittchow, Drake, Davison, Linhart, Dougherty, and Ford.

I realize I may be overly optimistic about next year but it can be surprising.

I assume Eaves and Shuchuk will be out recruiting in the next week to fill the remaining spots. That being said, I am thinking a transfer is not unlikely.

Anyway, here is to next year. On Wisconsin.

I worded it weirdly. The "hockey swept under the rug" comment wasn't meant as a hockey vs other sports comment; it was more of a hockey season vs not hockey season comment. Had they won 2 games this weekend, that trip to the frozen four would mean a lot more Badger hockey fun. However, that hope was cut short, and it won't be until October before it comes back, and longer than that before they become even a little prominent in the eyes of local casual fans.

As for basketball, it was more about the histories of the two programs, and what was expected at the beginning of the year. Looking back, I'm surprised, that's all. I'm a basketball season ticket holder, and when tonight's game rolls around, I'll be cheering on Frank the Tank and his assistants.

That bitter part of me? It's the same part of me that LOVES the attention and support football and basketball get! It also loves that we have and support many successful teams, and wishes more people would appreciate them. Besides the obvious reasons as a fan, one thing I loved about volleyball's run to the national championship was the buzz they created. Hopefully more people come out to the Field House next year. (A few of the most raucous atmospheres I've been a part of were volleyball matches, yet so many people have no clue about it.) It doesn't have to take away from football, but it can add to the fact that we support several sports well.
