Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

By better tickets.....I meant in terms of using the marketplace as opposed to just buying through the box office for a random game here or there.

That is a good idea. Never thought of that. I missed your meaning. Sorry about that.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

you can get 4 tickets, 4 soda's and 4 hot dogs for $56 ($14/ticket) for third level seats, and then move to all the empties in the second and first level (which there are plenty at this point). Why pay $20 / ticket for season tickets?

Because some people would consider that method to be dishonest, I guess.

I used to use ticket marketplace quite a bit for extra tickets and it worked very well, even in close to sell out games if you got in early. I do imagine it was partly due to the fact that there were a lot of season ticket holders. I also imagine the fewer season ticket holders there are, the less well it will work.

If there's low demand, there really is no reason to have season tickets, other than to secure particular seats if you like, but beyond that, there is none. Hate to admit it, but it has seemed to me all along that Gurt was the clever one.

Ok so you sit in the third level. still way cheaper.

Admittedly, I like where I sit, first row in the corner, second level and have great "neighbors," so I would hate to lose that. But my only means at this point to show my displeasure to the athletic dept, is to give up my season tickets and let them take the hit on the revenue side. I showed you the numbers. If 2,000 of us do this, they will lose Eaves contract buyout cost on a yearly basis going forward.

It works if 2000 don't go to any games. On the other hand it's possible that your master plan has been all along to lead a mass exodus of ticket holders in order to move from your pretty good second level seats to some premium first level seats as soon as they are vacated.

If so, I tip my hat to you. That's a some real genius work right there! ;)

Nope, I like sitting up higher to see the plays develop.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

I'm in the same boat as you two. I am also holding back my badger fund donation (not needed for my tickets) as well, to see if a change is made.

yeah, it's a tough position to be in. I take absolutely no pleasure in feeling this way and stating it here (and more specifically calling for the coaching staff to go, but facts are facts) but I feel like we have no voice other than speaking with our $.

When we moved to Wisconsin my Dad discovered UW hockey from a family friend. Our first season tickets were for the 1985 season. When we showed up to our first games we were regaled with stories of NCAA Titles, Badger Bob, Suter's, Driver, Chelios, and on an on. So from my perspective (idiot though I may be), Wisconsin was a national power for over a decade prior to our getting season tix, then for another 19-20 years after (through 94 or 95 let's say).

For 20 years now we've gotten flashes (a few good seasons, one great one) but mostly we've gotten average teams or worse. I find that unacceptable and I find the current situation even lower than the final Sauer years.

So whether the staff is retained or not really will dictate our season ticket renewal:(

We will not abide another ****ty losing season.

Not just that our program is in shambles, but the fact that this season is making us all self-identify as Idiots.

I'll give those rodent ******** some credit; they're really not rubbing our noses in it. ****es me off.

Things are a bit greener on the Gopher side, but our expectations are not being met either so who are we to talk smack. I disagree with the post below. The gophers won't suck next year. A perennial contender as WI should be too. Kids leave and new ones come in and hopefully make their mark, and other guys continue to improve.

From an outside prospective I do believe Eaves is a good coach, but maybe a new direction is in order for a well deserved and proud program. Idiots? Nah, just passionate fans that won't let a bad season just go. Keep your tickets gang, the Badgers will be back. I'm sure Barry will ask about a plan to even up the classes and such. There is talent, some might have underachieved but don't expect that to continue. I'll stick to the gopher thread now.

How so?

I don't actually have a kidney stone to pass this weekend. Or at least I hope I don't...

It's all part of our agenda to do whatever we can to make sure Eaves is the most secure coach in the country ;)

This.

But honestly, to address the earlier statements about buying off the street, that's what I do for MN games, if I go. There is NO way I can afford season tickets ("donations"* help, in MN's case). My work schedule doesn't help for Fri games (and since the B1G Mistake formed, the non-Sat games overall). Am I cheating them? Not really. Those tickets I buy off the street have been purchased. The U already has their money. I am only helping myself.

*The "donations" are actually required, from what I know, but since they are designated as "donations," one can write them off on taxes.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

There hasn't been talk of not re upping next year in our group, but the poor attendance sure is a topic of conversation.

I hope the powers that be realize that further messing with the Fri/Sat series schedule will exacerbate the situation. Hockey ain't basketball.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

For the first time in 27 years, I won't be going to the league tournament. Detroit is just too far a slog for one-and-done.

Anybody here going? I hate to break my string of 26 straight tournament pins. If anybody's going and could get me a pin, I'd make it worth your while.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXXII: No Where To Go But Up!

I havn't heard anything on Ustaski in a couple of weeks.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems weird that a guy plays 22 of the first 24 games and has now missed 8 in a row and nobody seems to have said a word about him in over a month.

Maybe he wasn't happy that his coach called fans idiots and is now in a russian gulag?
